~17~
It’s been two weeks since the divorce was finalized and since Jason failed to adopt Savannah. We were told that it could take up to a year before it was final but we were told that the sooner we were married, it would help. He hasn’t asked me to marry him yet but we have looked at rings.
Today was the day we were having the twins sixteenth birthday and I was running around town like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get everything ready. They were at Jason’s right now while I did what I had to. We were holding the party at the gym so I was trying to get decorations bought so I could get things up and looking good.
I called Cheyenne on the way and she was suppose to meet me there with Audrey and we were going to get it decorated. I also was going to have to run back to the store to get the cakes. I don’t think I could have handled everything by myself and was thankful that Cheyenne and Audrey were going to help me decorate.
When I finally had everything I needed, I went straight to the gym and luckily the girls were already standing outside waiting for me to pull up and help me carry things in. Once in, we sat straight to getting the decorations put up. This was one of the reasons we decided to hold the party at the gym. One half of it could be decorated for Matt and the other half could be decorated for Dani. Since I had fraternal twins, it was difficult to manage a birthday party where each would be satisfied but they both agreed that they wanted to have a black light party.
We had spent days hand making the party invitations and we were lucky that we sat a limit of kids that could come. Twenty five of their closest friends and that was it. We stocked up on black card stock and neon colored paint. It seemed to take forever to make the invitations even with four people working on them. Last night, Jason came by and pushed the rings against the wall and put up the black lights but I still had to get the streamers, beaded curtains and back drops up.
Four hours later and two hours to go before the party, I was rushing back out the door and heading home to get ready. Cheyenne was nice enough and offered to pick the cakes up for me so I didn’t have to rush to get that. When I got to Jason’s house, Dani was running around like a mad woman while Jay and Matt sat there and laughed at her.
I shot them both looks and went to go help Dani. Not only was it going to be a black light party but Dani wanted to add her own twist to it and was dressing like back in the eighties. When I walked into the bathroom, she was pulling her hair into a side ponytail and seemed to be having problems. I went over to her to see if I could help.
“How did you do this in the eighties?” she asked.
“Hey now, I don’t remember much about the eighties style. I was only like five when this look was popular. Now, if this was the nineties, I could go on for days.”
“I’m nervous,” she whispered.
“Why?”
“Because Sam is going to be there. He hasn’t talked to me much for the past couple of days. I think he’s going to break up with me.”
“He’s not going to break up with you and even if he does, that will be okay, Dani. You’re only sixteen, you have plenty of time left to figure love out.”
“Mom, were you ever in love with Seth? Or has it always been daddy?”
“Honey, I’m not going to lie. I fell in love with your dad pretty quickly. He was my first everything. I tried to make myself love Seth but it wasn’t possible. I don’t want that for you because you seen how badly life took me down.”
“You do look younger now,” she laughed.
“Gee thanks. I didn’t realize being in your thirties was old.”
