I was lucky that the only thing that happened to me was whiplash. They did another x-ray on my wrist just to make sure that the grabbing and twisting that Seth did, didn’t do anymore damage and lucky for me, it didn’t. I did, however found out that I was going to have to file a report on Seth because there were witnesses as to what he did. As I laid on the bed, I looked over at the man beside me. Jason never left my side and he was the one that pulled me out of the car. It looked my my car would be totaled but I was thankful.

“You know, you don’t have to sit here and pretend like you care,” I said, looking at Jason.

“Whatever,” he said, not meeting my eyes. All of a sudden, I heard some kind of commotion going on right out from my door. Jason got up to go see what was going on. “What seems to be the problem out here?” he asked, poking his head out.

“There’s a young man here demanding to see Mrs. Whitman.”

“Jason, it’s probably Matt,” I said from the bed.

“Let me see my mom!” I heard my son shout. I looked at Jason and nodded.

“It’s okay,” Jason said. “It’s her son,” he said and I felt a sharp pain go through my chest when he said her son. I had to brush it away because he just found out that he was a father.

“Mom, are you okay?” Matt rushed to my side, Dani, Savannah and my parents not far behind. Dani and Savannah were crying their eyes out and Matty just wrapped my gently in a hug.

    “I’m okay, the car isn’t,” I said.

“I’ll... um... I’m going to head out,” I heard Jason said, looking between me and Matt. “Seems like I need to go talk to someone to get some straight answers.”

“Jason, I’m telling the truth,” I said, only earning a nod from him.

“I’ll talk to you later, Mel,” he said and smiled at my parents.

When I was finally given my release papers, I was happy to be going home. I just wanted to forget this day happened and pretend that Seth hadn’t made an appearance. I went straight to my room and laid down. I fell asleep and went back to when Jason asked me to be his official girlfriend.

Seventeen Years Ago

It’s been three months since Jason and I worked on our science project and we still occasionally went to a movie, chaperoned by one of our parents of course. My dad wasn’t to thrilled because he was a year older than me but I didn’t care. I liked being around him and he made me feel special.

The kids at school were surprised when he would wait by the front doors and walk me to class. I didn’t like being the center of attention but because Jason was the tough and tumble guy that people stayed clear of and I was the little nerd that knew everything except when it came to science. What shocked everyone more was the first time Jason grabbed my hand while we were walking the halls.

“What makes her so special?” I heard Cassie Donnelly ask her cheerleader minions.

It was exactly four months later and my fifteenth birthday, when Jason asked me to be his girlfriend. He told me that he couldn’t think of anything else to get me because I was much more to him than just a present. He asked me to step out on the porch with him and we sat on the swing. He kept biting his nails and I knew that he only did that when he was nervous.

    “What’s wrong, Jay?” I asked.

“Baber, I dodn’t know if you know this but I’m pretty crazy about you,” he said, looking me right in the eye.
