When we were finished at the police station, Jason took us back home. While Matty went on inside, I stayed on the porch with Jason. I walked over to the swing and sat down, pulling my knees up and resting my chin on them. Jason just leaned against the porch railing and crossed his arms over his chest.
“I’m going to talk to Tobias tomorrow,” he said, breaking the silence.
“Jason, you have a match next weekend. Wait until that’s over.”
“It doesn’t matter the day, Baber. When and if he tells me, I’m not going to continue to let him be my manager. Especially after this.”
“I didn’t tell you for you to fire him. I told you because you deserved to know.”
“You’re damn right I deserved to know. I’ve gone sixteen years through life wondering what I did to you for you to just leave me without explanation. Yeah, I was only sixteen but I knew what I wanted and what I wanted was you, Melissa.”
“You know, after he told me to make the decision, he pretty much just left me in the hallway. As he walked into the conference room, I caught the door with my foot and saw you up there answering questions, laughing and smiling. I knew that what you did, made you happy. I thought about how it would have ruined your chances...”
“Because that’s what Toby said, Mel. So what if I was only sixteen? There are kids getting knocked up and they televise it.”
“Tobias made it sound worse. You have to look at it from my point of view also, I was emotional. Fifteen and just found out that I was pregnant. My parents laid the biggest guilt trip on me and I was afraid of embarrassing everyone.”
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?” I asked.
“We should have waited. You were to young and I shouldn’t have pushed you into... that,” he said. I just up and walked over to him. When I was right in front of him, I laid my hands on his arms.
“You cannot honestly be standing here and be taking all the blame. Jay, I knew what we were doing and I don’t regret it. We have two beautiful children and I kept them from you.”
“Savannah should be mine to,” he whispered.
“I guess I should be taking the blame for that,” I replied. Now it was his turn to comfort me. He pulled me into his arms and just held me.
“You don’t have any reason to take any blame. I guess that I can understand why you did it. You were young and vulnerable,” he said. He looked down at me and touched my cheek. I leaned into his touch and felt like I did when he first told me that he loved me. “I’m going to head out, so you go get some sleep and I’ll talk to you later.”
“Thanks for taking us to the police station.”
“You’re welcome,” he said, leaning down and kissing my cheek. Just as he turned around, I grabbed ahold of his shirt and pulled him back. I just wanted a little bit longer in his arms and he gladly wrapped me up in his tight embrace.

It’s been about four days since I last saw Jason and I had to admit that I was missing him. I felt like we were making a connection again and now it just wasn’t. Matty’s eye looked a little better and he was right about the girls hanging around him. Of course he didn’t tell anyone that he got hit by my husband and instead told them that he started training for boxing. I told him that it was wrong to lie but one day while I was out on my day off, I stopped by a gym to see if they trained in it. I wasn’t happy about it but if it would help him in the long run, I would invest in it.
