Seth’s POV
“Seth my man. I need you to do something for me,” the voice on the other line said.

I silently sat in science class and hoped that Mrs. Julian would pair me with Melissa Baber. She was by far one of the prettiest girls in school. As the list went on, I was at the point of jumping up and begging her to pair me with her but just then, she paired Jason with Melissa. I discreetly watched as he walked over to her table and sat down. What was strange was that Melissa didn’t seem at all scared of him.
I sat there, seething, as this dumb a** teacher paired me with nerdy Marla Winslow. The girl was every shade of red as she took her seat beside me and she was actually drooling. I guess she’s never sat this close to a boy before. I didn’t care about what was going on as I turned and watched Jason and Melissa together. They were talking and that idiot was smirking at her. When he looked at her, she blushed.
Dear God, please tell that she’s not affected by him...
The next day when I got to school, the first thing I saw was that Jason was waiting by Melissa’s locker. I convinced myself that it was only because they were working on the science thing together and went about my day. The rest of the week went by like that with Jason waiting by her locker and walking her to class. They would even eat lunch together. I wonder how she would feel if she knew that he was a fighter, I bet she wouldn’t want to be near him then.
What really started to sat me off was when Jason would grab ahold of her hand like he was silently staking his claim. Melissa Baber was to good for him and everyone knew it. The girls were jealous because they thought that they had a chance with Jason and a lot of guys were jealous because they thought Mel was beautiful. She was but I could tell she didn’t think so. It sickened me seeing the two of them together and I just wanted to do something.
As the days turned to weeks and the weeks turned to months, I watched as the girl of my dreams started falling for that douchebag. I felt my world slowly start to crumble each day and then my heart shattered when they came to school after the weekend of her fifteenth birthday. I didn’t believe the rumors and I wouldn’t believe it until I saw it with my own two eyes. When I did see it, I wanted to kill Jason. They walked into school together, wrapped together. He always waited for her by her locker but they never walked in together. He had his arm draped over her shoulders and she had her arm around his back and her hand was in the back pocket of his jeans.
“So, you’ve heard that Jason and Melissa are officially like boyfriend and girlfriend, right?” my so called best friend, Dale asked me.
“I didn’t believe it until now,” I muttered, slamming my locker door shut. I watched as they stood by her locker and just after she closed it, he took her books and leaned in to kiss her.
That should have been me. She is always so nice and smiles at me all the time. Why didn’t she give me a chance. What does she see in that arrogant scumbag? She’s so much better than he and he sure as hell doesn’t deserve her. I would be so much better than him. I would show her one day that I would grow into the man that she deserves.

As the days grew into weeks and the weeks grew into months, I saw how close Melissa and Jason were getting. Everyone around them thought that they were the perfect couple. Some even told them that they would last forever. I knew better, teenage love isn’t meant to last. It didn’t for my parents and it wouldn’t for Jason and Melissa.
