It’s been a full twenty four hours since Jason got the phone call from his parents and now we were sitting at the house just waiting for them to call so Jat could go pick them up. The kids was not as nervous as I was. They were practically jumping up and down to finally meet Jason’s parents.
Another hour went by and we still had not got the phone call from them. Just as Jason stood up to go to the airport, a taxi pulled in. I stood up and looked out of the living room window. I stared out the window, eyes wide and mouth hanging open, as Thomas and Susan stepped out of the cab together; holding hands. Jason was in the kitchen so he didn’t see it.
“Jay, their here,” I called out.
“Together?” he asked, walking back into the living room. I could tell the second he saw what I did. “What in the world?” he asked the air and went to the door.
“Matt, Dani, Savannah. They’re here, come on,” I called upstairs.
A couple of minutes later, Thomas walked in carrying a couple of suitcases and Jason right behind him with his mother’s. Susan walked in carry a small bag along with her purse. Jason’s mother took one look at the kids than at me and tears flooded her eyes. She walked over to me and wrapped her arms around me.
“I’m so happy to see you, sweetheart,” she said.
“It’s great to see you to, Susan,” I smiled.
“Melissa, it’s been too long,” Thomas said, giving me a hug.
“So, care to introduce us,” Susan said, looking at the kids.
“This is Matthew Thomas, Danielle Rae and Savannah Grace,” I introduced and pointed to each of the kids. Jay’s parents stood there with what looked like pride in their eyes.
“You named the twins after us?” Susan asked.
“I thought it was appropriate. The short time Jason and I were together before, you all treated me like family. I felt loved here and when I found out I was having a boy and girl, I had it decided.”
“You also named Danielle after Jason, didn’t you?” Thomas asked. This was the first time I was directly asked and I was surprised that no one had done it before.
“Yeah,” I nodded.
“You named me after daddy?” Dani asked.
“Your dad’s middle name is Daniel.”
“I didn’t know that.”
“Oh. so that’s how it is. Dani finds out that she’s named after dad and I get thrown on the back burner?” Matty joked.
“Oh, of course not. Thomas is a very strong name,” Tom said, walking over to his grandson.
“So, what do we call you? I kind of like Pop and Nan,” Matty said.
“You remind me so much of your father when he was this age,” Susan said, laughing. “I think Pop and Nan sounds great. What do you think, Tommy?”
“I think you’re right, Susie,” he laughed and smiled over at Susan.
“I know I’m technically not your granddaughter, but can I call you that to?” Savannah asked, shyly.
“You are our granddaughter. Family isn’t always blood,” Thomas said, leaning down to Savannah.
“Okay,” Jason clapped. “Mom. Dad. Mel and I are going to go make something to eat and leave you all to get to know your grandchildren. We’ll be out soon, he said, taking my hand and almost pulled me through the house.
