Jason’s POV

It’s been two weeks since Melissa had her first hearing and it seemed like time was just creeping by as slowly as it could. I just wanted everything to be over and as much as I did, I knew Mel wanted it more. I spent as much time with her and the kids as possible and loved getting to know the kids better. It made my day when the kids started calling me dad and I couldn’t help but smile when Savannah would slip and say it to. She gave her piece of mind to her father but I guess she still wasn’t comfortable calling me dad because she thought that there would be a possibility that she could be going back to Forth Worth with the low life of a father she has.

The kids adapted well to life in Columbus and Matty even had some girls starting to chase after him. I could tell that he was going to be irresistible like I was at his age, even though the only girl I was interested in at that age was his mother. I worked with him at the gym on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays as long as he wasn’t behind in homework. He was definitely a fast learner and improving a lot. He was itching to get in the ring and spare with someone besides me but he was still a month shy of being sixteen and I didn’t want the owners to get into trouble with Matt got hurt while underage.

Things were looking really good on Melissa’s part. We went together and asked some of the neighbors if they had seen when Seth hit Matt and after explaining to them her situation about her life of abuse, they didn’t hesitate to say that they would stand with her. The judge told her to get three and we had six. Kent was still out trying to get some more proof of the abuse but there was no doubt in our minds, this would turn out to be in favor for Mel.

As I pulled into the driveway, I saw her sitting in one of the wicker chairs and smiled. She had something on her mind because she didn’t turn her head when I pulled in. I slid out of my truck and slowly walked up the porch.

“Hey,” I said. She looked up with a surprised look on her face.

“Hey,” she smiled as I sat down beside her.

“What’s on your mind?” I asked, leaning over to kiss her cheek.

“The hearing and some other things,” she shrugged

    “Like what?” I pondered.

“Do you think that we’re moving to fast?” she asked, coming right out with it. “I mean, I’m still married and pretty much the second we move here, it seems like we’re back together,” she said and I just sat there and stared at her. I took a deep breath in and looked away. We sat there in silence for a few minutes and then I ran my hands through my hair. I know how I felt about her, the feelings came flooding back the moment I saw her. I didn’t want them to and I guess that’s the reason I just walked off from her at the store. I wanted her to feel like crap but the moment I saw that no good husband of hers lay his hands on her the way he did, my protective senses kicked in.

“You want to know what I think about this?” I asked, motioning between the two of us.

“Yeah,” she said, nodding her head.

“I don’t think there is a right speed to move when you know it’s with the right person. Things got messed up with us before Melissa and I’m not about to let that happen again. I know what I’m fighting for this time and it’s worth it, no matter how long this thing with Seth plays out.”

    “Are you sure?” she asked

“More than anything. Now, stop worrying your pretty little head about things and let’s just enjoy this time.”

    “Okay,” she smiled.

“So, it’s Wednesday. What do we have planned today?” I asked her.

“I’m not sure. I think mom is fixing a chicken casserole and she would probably love to have you stay.”

    “Okay,” I smiled.

I had to admit that it made me feel good that her parents welcomed me back with open arms. Well, at least her mom and I had to admit that her dad still kind of frightened me. I don’t have any idea why but he did. When I told Mel that, she just laughed. I know we weren’t kids anymore and for the life of me, I shouldn’t be afraid of anyone. I had people afraid of me but once I started coming around, I started sweating and shaking when I saw her dad.

We stayed outside until the kids got off the bus and the first thing I noticed was the big smile that stretched across Dani’s lips. Melissa perked up when she was walking into the yard and Dani walked over, gave us each a hug and seemed to float into the house. Matty just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders and followed his sister inside. After a few minutes, Melissa started laughing.

“What was her problem?” I asked, confused.

“There’s a boy involved,” she smiled. When she said that, I jumped up out of my seat and started pacing the porch. When I finally excepted that I was the twins father, my fatherly instincts really kicked in and I was going to have to go in search for this boy who has seem to have my daughter under his spell. When I started clenching my fists, I felt Melissa’s hands on mine and I looked into her eyes.

“If she thinks she’s going to go out with this... this... boy,” I said, spitting the word out like it was venom.

“Jason, she’s fifteen. She has a boy interested in her. It’s not the end of the world.”

“That may be true but I know what goes on in boys heads at that age.”

“Jay, she has a good head on her shoulders.”

“Mel, we were that age and look what I did to you,” I stressed. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her as I watched a couple of different emotions run through her eyes. I couldn’t decipher the emotions but as quickly as they crossed, they disappeared.

“Jason, I had my hand in that night to. I don’t regret it because the results were two beautiful kids. Dani is a little more... cautious about things like that.”

“Guys know how to talk girls into things.”

“Oh my gosh. You know what, you are uninvited to supper,” she laughed.

    “What? Why?”

“Because you are being unreasonable right now. She’s going to be sixteen in a month. I don’t see any problem with a boy liking her or her liking him back,” she said.

“How can you be so calm about this?” I whisper yelled.

“Because I look at it like this. My dad kept me so guarded as a child that the second a boy started showing interest in me, I became some bumbling idiot. The minute we were alone, I ended up getting pregnant.”

“You weren’t a bumbling fool. You told me straight up what you thought and how you felt.”

“You made me nervous as all get out, Jason. I’m going to go in there and tell our daughter that if she wants to go out with this boy, her parents has to meet him first.”

“Can I still come for dinner?” I asked, jutting out my bottom lip.

“No,” she said, standing up. She had to walk past me to get to the door so when she walked by, I shot my arms out and grabbed her by the waist, pulling her into my lap.

“Please Melly,” I said, kissing her neck. I felt the involuntary shiver and smiled over the fact that I caused that reaction from her.

“No, you barbarian,” she said, attempting to pull herself away from me. I tightened my grip on her and just held on.

“Come on, Mel. You have to look past this. I’ve only known that I had kids for a month. I can’t help my over-protectiveness for my daughter.”

“Let me ask you something Jay,” she said, finally giving up the battle of trying to pull away from me. Now, she was staring intently into my eyes.

    “Okay,” I said.

“What if it was Matt that came home looking all starry eyed over some girl?”

    “Well...”

“You would be patting his back and telling him to be careful.”

     “Um...”

“Don’t you deny it, Jason Ryder. You are being a complete hypocrite right now,” she laughed, unamused.

“Hey now. I’m sorry, Melly. Please forgive me,” I said. When she didn’t say anything, I ran my finger across the skin that was exposed on her back. “Melissa, you know you can’t ignore me for to long. So, you might as well forgive me,” I smiled at her. She looked down at me and somehow maneuvered herself to where she was now facing me and wrapped her arms around my neck. I smiled a little smugly because she was like putty in my hands.

“You’re right, I will forgive you, eventually. But right now, you will be lucky if you think these lips,” she said pointing to her mouth. “Will touch yours,” touching mine with the tip of her finger. “Until you can be a little more understanding,” she said, standing up, looking at me, smiling down and walked on into the house.

I just sat there, in complete and utter shock. She knew what she was doing and apparently she now had the upper hand and she knew she did.

Sorry that it's a little on the short side but I really struggled with this chapter.

How did we like looking at Jason's POV???

I'll admit that I was having more problems when I was writing it in Melissa's so you can thank babykreayzaye for suggesting a different POV....

Thank you all who have sent me messages about my well being. It was rough there for awhile but I am feeling so much better now. Still have a sore throat but I don't feel like death anymore so that's a good thing.

If you all didn't get my last mass message... I am planning another story after I wrap this one up and it's going to be a spiritual romance. I haven't thought of a title yet but I'm just telling you if you're not into the religious and spiritual stuff, please don't read it and leave negative comments. I try my best to write to satisfy but this is something I'm writing for me.

So... with that being said and as always... Leave some love...
