The Ugly Duckling [Jinkook, Minjoon, Taegiseok]

14: Birthday Date

Ages at the moment:

Jin: 20

Yoongi: 19

Hoseok and Namjoon: 18

Jimin and Taehyung: 17

Jungkook: 15

It was Taehyung's birthday. He didn't get a ball because it wasn't his 18th birthday yet, and he didn't want a huge party this year.

But he did spend some time with his group of friends. He spent the morning hanging out and had lunch with them all, choosing to have his cake after lunch so that his friends would all be there for it. 

And then there were presents gifted to him. Yoongi for whatever reason wanted to go last, after everyone else had left. Taehyung shrugged it off and agreed, not quite understanding why Yoongi had that demand, but willing to find out. 

Finally it was down to just Yoongi and Taehyung. And Hoseok, Yoongi's ever so faithful guard. 

"Here's your gift," Yoongi handed Taehyung a carefully wrapped box with a tightly tied bow on the top. 

Taehyung accepted it with a smile and opened it slowly. He took out a doll and looked at it confused but intrigued. "What is this?"

"It's a russian nesting doll," Yoongi explained. "It opens up in the middle."

"It does?" Taehyung opened the doll, only to be surprised at seeing another doll. He pulled the doll out and opened it, revealing another doll. "How many of these are there?" He asked, opening it again to reveal yet another doll.

"Just keep opening it. I have a surprise for you in the center," Yoongi promised. 

Eager to see the surprise, Taehyung continued opening a total of eight russian nesting dolls. Inside the last one, was a doll the size of his pinky nail, and a small note wrapped around it. Taehyung opened the note. 

Look up. 

Taehyung looked and gasped, seeing Yoongi holding two rings. 

"These are promise rings. Technically, I probably should have gotten engagement rings since we are already arranged to be married, but I thought these were more fitting for us," Yoongi held out a ring. "We never got proper rings and proposals, but I wanted something for us to share as a reminder of our future together." 

Taehyung gladly accepted the ring, slipping it onto his long, slender finger. Yoongi put on his matching ring, and smiled shyly at Taehyung.

"I know we probably aren't in love with each other yet since it is a little soon, but I think that someday we will be. These represent my promise to love you and my expectation that you will love me back."

"Trust me, you won't have to worry about that," Taehyung said cheekily, causing Yoongi to blush. "So why did you want to give this to me after everyone else went home?"

"Because I want to take you on a date," Yoongi declared. He liked being the initiator, and he figured that now was the time to start initiating before it became too late and he was already walking down the isle or watching Taehyung walk down the isle, whichever one they would decide on later. 

After all, there was only about a year left, maybe two if he could convince his parents to hold off a bit until he felt more ready. 

"A date?" Taehyung blinked.

"Yes. We are going out together," Yoongi confirmed. "I spent some time getting to know your kingdom a little better so I would know what the best places are."
