It wasn't supposed to be like this.
Thor had mentioned a brother and an almost wife last year when he stumbled upon Jane and her two friends in Puente Antiguo. But... Looking at the news now from the research station SHIELD had sent them to in Tromso, Thor's description seemed way off.
It was early one day when her SHIELD associates had come to Jane's lab and asked her to pack her things. When she asked why, she wasn't told much other than there could be a threat to her safety because of, quote "the situation last year." Assuming it meant something about Thor, she quickly gathered some equipment and basic necessities before boarding the SHIELD quinjet. Darcy came along, too. With Erik somewhere she didn't know, it would be nice to have her close friend near.
They flew for a long time to Tromso where they found a very remote laboratory which looked like a rather nice, modern house. The rooms were comfortable with a massive lab for Jane and Darcy to conduct research in.
She still didn't fully understand what was going on until some agents got her out of bed (just about to lay down and close her eyes, it was 8:30 in Tromso and she had had a long day). Confused, they directed her to the flat screen TV they had turned on. Every channel was covering an extraterrestrial attack on New York. A portal, hidious aliens, and... Was that Thor?
Jane was surpised to see her... Well, he certainly wasn't her boyfriend. Whatever he was to her, he was in the thick of it very early on until she couldn't spot him in the fray. Scared that something had happened, Jane asked the few agents around her what was happening. Frustratingly, they still didn't tell her.
Hours passed and at around 2:30 AM, the agents left Jane and Darcy in front of the news while they discussed some new orders. They came back over sullenly.
"The UN has decided to surrender. The rest of SHIELD has collapsed." One woman said.
"What? How's that possible??" Jane asked.
"We were overwhelmed. Coulson's dead, Agents Barton and Romanoff are corrupted, along with Mr. Stark, Dr. Banner, and Captain Rogers. Director Fury's MIA. Pronounced dead, but you never know with him."
