We sit round the table for dinner and I give everyone their plate of Bolognese each and Sam mumbles a word of thanks. Jack doesn't say anything he just tucks right in to the food I have prepared. Sam appears to notice this and sends a disgusted look in my boyfriend's direction. "So, how was your day, babe?" I glance at my boyfriend and he sticks his thumbs up.
"Yeah it was alright." He nods his head but immediately goes back to eating.
Sam again seems to notice and raises his eyebrows. "What do you exactly do?" My brother has stopped eating and is folding his arms.
Jack seems taken aback that he is being spoken to by the newcomer and quickly looks at me before looking back at Sam. "I sell cars, which is why we have two good ones, because of my job. Got them for a reduced price too."
"Wow, what a spectacular job." There is evident sarcasm in Sam's voice which causes Jack's face to change and to my surprise he actually puts his fork down on the table.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Dunno what you mean, all I was saying that I think that your job is spectacular. I really don't see the problem, mate." Sam shrugs and continues eating barely noticing that Jack is staring daggers at my brother.
"Jack, just ignore him." I whisper to him and put one of my hands upon his thigh.
"I am, and I will ignore every bit of bullshit that..."
"Jack! Was that really necessary? That's my fourteen year old brother and your twenty one, rise above it please." I scold him and we all go back to eating in silence.
After, I am left to load up the dishwasher and sort out the kitchen whilst Jack watches telly and, understandably, Sam unpacks his belongings and sorts out of his room.
I knock on Sam's door and a faint voice speaks up. "Come in." My hand slowly and cautiously push open the door and my younger brother is sat laying on his new bed on his phone.
I take a seat at the edge of it and face towards him. "I am here to apologise on Jack's behalf." The awkwardness is high as Sam puts down his phone looking at me with his green eyes.
"Honestly it's fine, I shouldn't have said that comment, I don't really blame your boyfriend for reacting like that, I would if I had been in the same situation. I mean it must be threatening having someone else in your home and on the first night they begin questioning your ways. But come on, I have known him five minutes and I can already tell that he does nothing around here. I bet you that he has never one done the washing or the ironing, I bet you that you have always had to do that."
"Now, like you said, you have only known Jack five minutes so, I don't really think that you are in the position to judge who Jack is. He has done a lot for me since I got here. I have known him since I went to university here and he let me in his home when we were eighteen and I was having troubles with dad and his new woman. So, I have done a lot less for Jack than what he has done for me, Sam," I lay back across his bed and his expression changes. "Anyways, guess who I am working for now." I raise my eyebrows up at him and a small smirk stretches across my face.
"You got a job?" Sam sits up straighter now and eagerness lights up in his eyes.
"Yeah, at the football club of PSG." I fold my arms across my chest as smugness smothers my expression.
Sam's mouth drops in pure disbelief. "No way, I call bullshit, there is no way that you are working alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr."
I bite my lip and go a bit red. "No it's true, I had a nice conversation with Kylian today actually. He is quite kind you know, has a cheeky side to him."
