Our desserts our matching, chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce. Tonight has been so perfect, just me and Kylian talking and laughing with each other. The band playing harmonious music in the background and the waiters and waitresses politely asking us if we want anything.

The ice cream is delicious and it melts in my mouth. I finish it extremely quickly and I am shocked, however I look over at Kylian's bowl and he too has eaten all of his.

He calls the waiter over for the bill and I get out my card. The boy opposite glares at me. "No." He shakes his head and I bite my lip.

"I feel bad though." I shrug my shoulders not putting my card back into my purse.

"This is my treat, therefore I pay." He tells me just as the waiter comes to a stop at our table.

"Ready for the bill?" The man with slicked back dark, brown hair questions.

"Yes please." Kylian replies and he completes the transaction before he stands up.

"Thank you." I smile at our waiter and he smiles politely back.

"The pleasure is all mine, you two have a lovely evening." The man bids his goodbyes and walks off with our empty bowls.

I stand up and Kylian doesn't hesitate to interlock his hands with mine. I squeeze his hand as we walk together towards the exit and he smiles down at me.

We exit the restaurant and go out into the cold night, Kylian holds me close as goose bumps appear on my arms from the icy wind that nips at me.

But I feel him get ripped away from me heavily. From the force of this action I stumble in my heels and I just about manage to stay on my feet. Then my eyes focus on the scene in front of me.

Jack.

A wooden baseball bat is held tightly in my ex-boyfriend's hand and he swings.

He swings it hard at Kylian's face. I scream as it makes contact, the noise of it hitting his cheek scarring as you can here something splitting open. The footballer smacks the concrete, eyes closed unconscious.

BAM!

Another hit, this time to the ribs. The cracking sound makes me cringe and that's when I come to my senses.

"JACK!" I shriek and shove him back with two hands. "You monster! WHY!" I keep pushing him back but he holds up the bat. Nothing but pure anger and hatred in his eyes.

"He took you away from me. I loved you, Olivia, and he ruined what we had." The bat shakes in his trembling grip and my heart pounds in my ears.

This is it, he is going to kill me.

A yelp leaves my mouth as I cover my head with my hands but the blow never comes. Instead I hear Jack groan and the clatter of the bat rings out as it falls to the floor.

I see the waiter from earlier holding the bat in his hands and Jack gives him one look before realising what he has done.

He legs it off.

"Are you okay?" The waiter questions and I nod my head slowly my body in shock of what just happened.

Then I remember Kylian. I turn back round and kneel on the concrete path beside the still unconscious boy. A dark bruise with an open cut rests upon his cheek from the first hit. He is breathing but I check his pulse and it's slow. "Call an ambulance." I tell the man who just saved me and he gets out his phone.

I hold Kylian's hand in mine whilst we wait. Tears now are streaming down my face.

This is all my fault.

* * *
The wait is horrible. Sat in a hospital waiting room as doctors rush past with patients and collect people for appointments.

This evening was supposed to be fun, happy and enjoyable. But no, it went the opposite.

My name is called and there is two police officers standing down the corridor. My heart skips a beat.

I am still in the dress from earlier, a small smudge of blood is drawn across the bottom from where I wiped my hand clean from the little red liquid that was on my thumb.

"Hello, I am P.C Davis and this is my co-worker P.C Collins, we are here to ask a few questions about what happened this evening." The officer is a girl with blond hair that is pulled neatly back into a low bun, the other is a man with a stubbly beard and grey eyes however holds a sweet smile.

I shiver slightly and they tell me to follow them to an empty room. They sit at a table and I sit opposite them. P.C Davis pulls out a recording device and offers a reassuring look. "For the purpose of evidence, we need to record this, we are going to be asking you questions and you need to answer them with full truth." P.C Collins pipes up, he has a deep voice with a slight northern accent and I nod my head slowly in reply.

I feel as if I am going to be sick. My legs bounce up and down in nerves and I pick at my fingers whilst my hands rest upon my lap.

P.C Davis pushes a button on the device and states the time and date. "So, as you know, a young man has been said to have been assaulted in the street with a baseball bat, you Miss Adams, are our key witness. Can you identify the attacker?" The woman leans a bit closer and I sink my teeth into my lip.

"Yes, his name is, Jack Paine." My voice is raspy and the tears prick at my eyes already as I recall the scene in my head.

"And, how do you know him?" This time the man speaks up and I bite my lip harder the taste of iron spiking my tongue.

Hesitation overwhelms me before I take a deep breath and answer. "He...he is my ex-boyfriend."

The two police officers exchange looks and more sympathy washes across the girl's face.

The interview goes on, all of it a blur, more questions about Jack, they asked me to recall the scene but now looking back it happened so fast that I couldn't tell you how many times Kylian was hit.

"I just want to see, Kylian, can someone let me see him."

The tears fall and I feel like my whole world has been tipped upside down.
