"You really think this'll work?"
Rory asked in a low whisper as she and Happy moved through the darkness quietly. She wasn't sold on it, or maybe it was just the fear, but she had other options. Working wasn't an option and she had very little to do besides PI and dirty jobs, Rory needed to control the fear.
"I think so." He pet her cheek softly. "Are you scared?" Hating to admit it, she just nodded. "Nothing is going to happen to you."
"Yeah, I'm trusting you on that one." Stretching on her tiptoes to reach his lips she kissed him before firing one suppressed shot into the door to destroy the lock. "Ready?" She asked, patting the crotch of his jeans with a grin. "I know this gets you all excited."
"You're fucking incredible." He mumbled, pushing her aside and stepping into the back of the house. If she was scared, like he knew she was, Happy didn't trust her to clear the house. "He's alone, back bedroom, there's a computer desk in the far right corner where he jerks off to."
"Charming." She smiled but as a realization hit her, Rory looked at him. "Wait, did you scout this and do a layout for me?"
"Maybe."
Sticking her tongue out at him, Rory laughed and beamed. "Thank you. I know you hate that shit."
"I just like some surprises."
"Well I do too, but not in this situation."
She waited at the bottom of the stairs for Happy but he pointed for her to go ahead. This was now her hit, Rory needed it and he'd see that she got it. Eyeing him for a moment, she saw he wouldn't budge and slowly took the steps. Happy could see her hesitating at the end of the hall but watched as she pushed through the fear and slowly creaked the door open. He was a few paces behind her, never giving too much space for something to go wrong but enough where she felt she was doing it alone.
There he sat, some overweight, sweaty man furiously masturbating. Rory grimaced and as she raised her gun a creak in the hall behind her made the man look up. Out of fear, he hurled a marble paperweight in her direction. She yelped and ducked, pulling the trigger twice without looking.
"Who are you?" He hollered, barely fazed by her shots. "I'm calling the police."
Rory looked up from her spot behind the TV stand and fired twice more, one entered the shoulder and the next in the head. She didn't see him fall but she heard the crash. She sat back, out of breath but smiling. When Happy raced in, only seconds after the original shots were fired, Rory looked at him with proud, teary eyes.
"Are you okay?" He asked as he helped her to stand.
"I'm fine." She stood and looked at the man, without a doubt dead, and nodded. "That was fucking scary."
"You were great."
"Thanks. Let's get the fuck the out here. We're leaving this guy, right? No dump or clean up?"
Happy looked at their mark and shook his head. "Nope, someone will find him." They made their way quietly through the house and out the back door. Happy took her hand. "How are you?"
"I'm good." Giving him a reassuring smile, Rory began to walk toward the back drive. "Let's get shit faced."

After heavy drinking and an attempt at incredibly drunken sex, Rory and Happy passed out without getting much beyond some weak foreplay. It was a celebration, which was why they went so hard on the liquor, but it made Rory's dreams amazingly vivid. As she slept she relived the murder but in her head when Happy took her hand and pulled her to stand their mark was far from dead. He'd managed to get his own gun and before Rory realized he was even moving shot Happy in the back of the head.
Before the same could happen to her, Rory awoke with a gasp and a tiny scream before finding Happy sleeping soundly beside her. Opening one eye he caught her panicked expression and jumped into action.
"What happened?"
"Just a nightmare." Her stomach churned as she said it and Rory was up racing to the bathroom to vomit.
Slowly Happy followed her and dutifully held her hair back. He figured it was her few sober weeks that caused her to be so sick and not her weakening mental state.
"Get it all out?" He asked as she sat back, her sweaty skin cooling on the cold bathroom tiles.
"Yeah." She looked mortified. "Thank you. You can go back. I just need a few minutes."
Happy didn't ask if she was sure, he just kissed her clammy forehead and trotted back to bed. As soon as he cleared the threshold Rory began to cry. His plan backfired, now she felt monumentally more terrified than before. After brushing her teeth and splashing her face with cool water she crawled back into bed with him. Working herself under his arm she cuddled close and it was only then that she felt safe enough to close her eyes again.
