Melody's Pov:
'Melody!' My eyes squint open as Layla busts into my room waking me up as my bedroom slams the bed.
'Yess?' I croak.
'We're having a girls day get up and get ready!' She cheers pulling the covers off my body.
I groan and peel my self of the comfort off the soft sheets.
'I hate you and your brother! You wake me up at unreasonable hours!' I shout.
'It just cause we love yah' she smirks at me before I slam the door on her.Sliding my fingers round the knob I switch the water on and slip in. My hair is frizzled with knots and due to the steam it begins to stick to my head in a weird shape. I pull out the hair band ripping some strands out with it.
Slowly I bend down picking up the shampoo and conditioner soaking my hair with the bubbles of the mixture, the room begins to fizzle with the scent of coconut. I rinse my hair and quickly wash my body my heart sinks as the memory of the almost kiss floats through my head. It's trail leaving pits of guilt in my stomach kicking me with each reoccurrence.
All we had was Ice cream. Ice cream. I didn't even plan on doing anything it just happened. We were talking and with each word we got closer, nearer to each others lips we were almost there but I stopped him before he could.
Layla has been nothing but sweet to me even when she found out about what happened. I could never do that to Bobby or Layla. I broke his heart once I can't do it again.
The minute we got back I skipped dinner and started packing. Redding myself to leave, to run away again. I was a coward how ironic. The girl who kills afraid of her friend. The only reason I didn't was because I promised George. Dear and beautiful George my light, only known him a few hours but he was already my best friend. My first best friend.
I would be here for him stay until he was okay. Stay until he had come out, be the light for him. I could do it.
Once out of the shower I got dressed into mom jeans, a long sleeved t-shirt that rolled over my crewneck. It was dark blue with the words New York pasted on the front in white. My beautiful black Dr Martins shinning up at me.
'Ready?' Layla pushed herself in my room smiling deeply at me.
'Yep ready to go?' I asked.
She didn't make a move just stayed smiling cheekily at me.
'What?'
'I know your secret Melody' her face dropped into a serious expression.
I didn't panic but waited patiently for her to continue, hoping she didn't say what I prayed she wouldn't.
'Your trying to impress my brother' she smirked her face lifting up.
I sighed heavily as my heart began to slow.
'Haha no' I forced out a laugh in hopes she would accept it.
'It's alright I approve'
I nodded glancing out the room in hopes for the troublesome twosome to appear. Nothing. My hope had run out.
'Alright let's go!' She grabbed my arm pulling me with her.
'Where are we going?' My voice dropped in and out as my body vibrated against each drop of the staircase.
'Wedding dress shopping' she chimed.
'Jesus' I groaned.
***
The shop was like what you would expect. Walls white with photo after photo of previous shoppers in wedding dresses. Racks and racks of dresses with one secluded desk positioned in the corner of the room. I was in hell. If shopping for normal clothes was bad what's shopping for wedding dresses going to be like.
'Layla?' I turned to her concerned.'Where are your other friends?'
'Busy and some I don't want here' she shrugs beginning to look through the racks.
'Erm just a quick little thing'
Her head turns up towards me and her eyes begin to crease.
'I'm s**t at this why do you want me?'
'Oh Melody your not terrible at this you haven't even tried it yet!' She laughs relaxing again.
'Ask George' I gesture.
'Oh shush that's with the boys there boring I'm fun' she winks.
I shook my head at her, took a moment to prepare and readied myself for battle.
'Okay let's do this!'
'Chill out Mels this is gonna be fun! Enjoy it' She grabs a glass of champagne and makes her way through the selection.
'Okay I will attempt to relax but it may not go well'
'Oh just take a seat I'll be there in a min to show you and get your opinion on the dresses alright' she shoves me out the way and I begin to make my way over to the runway area.
The ladies at the tills follow my confused gaze and turn laughing at my cluelessness. I roll my eyes and take a seat waiting for Layla to come over.
'Alright hun I'll be back in a bit to show you what they look like' she comes over seconds later and gestures for a lady to follow her in. I'm left confused as to how she found some that quick.
The first dress she walks out in has positioned itself weirdly on her hips making her look like she has a deformed bum and as she turns to look in the mirror I notice how the back of her trail is laying flat against her back unflatteringly. My eyes trail up towards her bodice where it's more flattering but still doesn't position it's self correctly on her.
'What do you think?' She asks her voice laced with worry.
'It looks lovely' my voice whistles with the lies that spill from my lips.
'It's alright Melody you can tell me the truth' she smiles.
'It looks atrocious I'm sorry but none of it fits right. You look like you have a deformed bum and your bodice makes your chest look like it can't hold it's self up which it can quiet perfectly I might add'
'Thank you and that's why I made you come' she replies smiling satisfied as she turns to go back into the changing room.
Layla is not like other women and it's a breath of fresh air to see. She respects my opinion and understands that I'm just trying to do what's best for her. It's lovely.
The next dress isn't any better but her trail has improved as flowers now climb up it.
'This one?'
'No sorry but I like the flowers that's an improvement' I smile.
'I thought so too' she grins.
What do you think she might get?
