P.o.v Shikamaru

'Seven minutes. Only seven minutes. That's easy enough, right? How hard could it be to spend seven minutes alone with Naruto.'

Turns out that seven minutes is a very, very long time when you're out of sorts like me.

~

The first minute or so is spent by the two of us sitting in silence while I stare at a spot in the corner of the room that didn't quite get painted.

I anxiously count down the seconds, every single one an eternity in itself.

'Six minutes to go.'

"Hey, Shikamaru.." A voice calls out to me.

"Yeah?" I say in a surprisingly calm tone.

"It's kinda awkward just sitting here, can we at least talk?"

"Okay, what do you wanna talk about?" My mouth is running on autopilot.

He looks down to the floor, focusing intensely on a certain spot.

I give a quiet chuckle. He looks like he's trying so hard just to come up with a topic of conversation.

Another 30 seconds passes before he comes up with something.

"I still feel like I need to make it up to you for earlier," He says with a small frown.

"Look, Naruto. You already made me that promise to make up for it earlier. Why the rush for me to use it? Is there something you want to do for me?"

'Yeah right,' I think. The last part is just wishful thinking. I'm quite full of myself today, aren't I?

"U-uh... I dunno," He says in a rather unconvincing manner.

Four and a half minutes.

'Do I dare? Do I really want to take the chance?' What I'm thinking of could easily ruin my friendship with Naruto for the rest of our lives.

And I'm not one to deal with awkward situations very well.

Am I willing to risk this?

Hell, what do I have to lose. My sanity? That left me a long time ago to even allow myself to fathom what I've currently come up with.

'You'll never know if you don't try, they say.'
