"You sure you need all that?"

The girl behind the counter popped a bubble from her gum, her gaze flicking between the items on the counter and Giovanna. The slight arch of her eyebrow and the sideways glance suggested she was silently questioning Giovanna's choices.

Undeterred, Giovanna smiled and nods. "Yup."

The girl sighed, scanning the seven energy drinks, her movements slow and deliberate. "You know these things aren't good for you, right?" she muttered, her tone a mix of annoyance and concern.

Giovanna hums, tapping her foot impatiently. "So I've heard." Her smile was more forced now, checking her watch.

The girl rolled her eyes, sliding the cans across the scanner with a practiced flick of her wrist. "Whatever, it's your life," she muttered under her breath, clearly unimpressed.

The total came to an eye-watering amount, but Giovanna didn't flinch, pulling out her wallet and handing over the cash. As she grabbed the bag, the girl gave one last disapproving shake of her head. "Have a good one," she said flatly, already turning to the next customer.

"Thanks! You too!"

Giovanna gave a small wave and hurried out of the store, clutching her bag of energy drinks. As the door swung shut behind her, she muttered to herself, "Can't believe I'm paying for judgment with my caffeine."

Then, the thin bag split open, spilling the cans onto the pavement. Giovanna cursed under her breath, kneeling to gather them. In a jumble, she gathered a few in her arms, scurrying forward as one rolled away.

Just as she went to reach for it, a different hand bent down and picked it up for her.

Her eyes snapped up, finding a boy standing above her with a sympathetic smile. She shoots up, readjusting the drinks in her arms. "Thanks so much," she blurted out, a bit flustered. "I swear, these bags are like tissue paper. You'd think they'd make them stronger with all the stuff people buy nowadays. Seriously, it's like they're designed to fail," she continued, her frustration easing as she smiled back at the boy.

His thick black, mildly curly hair was tousled and fell just above his shoulders, framing his face in a way that made him look approachable. "Long day?" He quirked an eyebrow, reaching out and grabbing another can before it fell from her arms.

She smiles thankfully, silently leading him to her car. "Something like that. But hey, at least I've got my daily workout covered, right?" She chuckled, trying to balance the remaining cans in her arms. He laughed, nodding as he helped her open the trunk. "Who knew shopping could be such a full-body exercise?"

She slams her trunk shut with a little too much force, internally cringing. "Thanks again, by the way." She pauses, glancing at her trunk. "Want one?"

He shakes his head, "don't those give you, like, heart attacks?"

She tsks, shaking her head. "Not you too. It's just an energy drink, not poison. Besides, I've been drinking these for years, and I'm still standing," she said with a playful roll of her eyes, wiggling her feet for emphasis.

He chuckled, shaking his head as he leaned against her car. "Well, my moms a doctor if you ever end up there."

"I'll keep that in mind," she said, smirking as she popped the tab on her drink. "But for now, I think I'll take my chances." She took a long sip, savoring the familiar rush of energy. She checked her watch, eyes bulging.
