Giovanna Zimmerman was a bit adrenaline-driven.

When she was four, she started climbing trees and jumping off them, pretending she was a superhero. Her father got her a trampoline, hoping to channel her energy into a safer outlet. Giovanna would jump off the tree branch and onto the trampoline instead, and she would bounce back up with even more enthusiasm. Through this, she figured out she was flexible. That her body could bend and twist in ways that other kids her age couldn't. Flips and twists became her favorite pastimes.

Giovanna broke her wrist on that trampoline.

When she was six, her mother signed her up for gymnastics. Giovanna accidentally kicked another kid in the face, giving him a concussion. Her mother signed her up for the local youth soccer league, something more physical. Her mother hoped soccer would help Giovanna channel her energy into teamwork and discipline.

Giovanna discovered she was competitive. Once, she got banned from a game for getting into a fight with another player during a heated match. She got a chunk of her hair ripped out that day. Nasty six year old girls, always the hair.

Once she hit the age of eight, she was in more activities than she could count. Soccer, cross country, volleyball, dance lessons, track, and karate. Giovanna is pretty sure her parents didn't know what to do with her as a child. She was like a whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm that her parents struggled to keep up with.

Giovanna continued to leave a trail of exhausted coaches and bewildered teammates in her wake.

They tried to get her into the arts, testing her musical abilities. Giovanna couldn't sit still long enough to focus on learning an instrument. She tried the piano and the violin, but her boundless energy made it impossible for her to sit still and practice.

When she was ten, she had taken on three different forms of martial arts. Her father had been teaching her the basics at home when she was little, but once she got old enough, her father enrolled her in formal classes to refine her skills.

Giovanna quit half of her activities.

She still ran, though by herself rather than competitively. She found a balance between staying active and focusing on what kept her busy.

"Fight!"

Giovanna swiftly dodges the boy's aggressive lunge, her movements fluid and precise. She circles him with ease, using her agility to her advantage, landing a light tap on his shoulder before darting away. She continues to evade his attacks, staying just out of reach, her confidence growing with each successful maneuver. The boy's frustration mounts as he struggles to land a hit, his movements becoming increasingly erratic.

She watches his feet, noticing a slight imbalance in his stance. She uses this to her advantage, feinting to the left and quickly striking his unguarded side. The boy stumbles back, caught off guard.

"Point!"

The boy regains his balance, but Giovanna doesn't let up. Every movement feels instinctive and precise, as if time slows down around her. She spots an opening and swiftly moves in, delivering a perfectly timed strike to his chest.

"Point!" the ref calls out again, as Giovanna gracefully backs away, ready to anticipate his next move.

The boy, now determined, rushes at her with renewed vigor, but Giovanna remains unfazed. She ducks under his wild swing, her reflexes sharp and her mind focused. In an instant, she pivots on her heel and moves behind him, leaving him grasping at empty air. He whirls around, trying to catch her, but she's already gone, darting to the side and staying just out of reach.
