"Do I look okay?" Tory asked, smoothing out her shirt and tightening her pony tale.

Gia nudges her, smiling. "You look like the most beautiful furniture sales person ever."

Tory laughed, her nerves easing a bit, following Gia into her dads furniture store. "Dad!" Gia calls out, waving at the familiar employees who sat behind a computer.

Her father pokes his head out of the office, smiling. "Tory!" he says, stepping out to greet them. "You're just in time. We've got a big delivery coming in, and I could use your help." He sighs gratefully, leaning over to kiss Gia on the head.

Apparently Sam had gotten Tory fired from her last job, and Tory was still trying to figure out how to move past it. Gia wasn't sure of the full details of why Tory needed a job so desperately, but she did know that the girls mom was sick, and Tory was in charge of taking care of her younger brother.

After guilt tripping her dad into giving Tory a job, he finally agreed to give Tory a chance. They were similar, Giovanna thinks.

Her mother peeks out after Tory followed Mike to the back, reaching out and yanking her daughter into a hug. Her eyes trailed down her body, and Gia swallowed, waiting for the inevitable. She snatched Gia's wrapped hand up in a swift motion, and examined the bandage with a critical eye.

"What happened?" she asked, her voice laced with concern. Gia hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal, but her mother's firm gaze urged her to speak. "It's just a small training accident," she finally said, avoiding the full truth.

Her mother's brow furrowed, and Gia braced herself for more questions. "Are you sure that's all?" she pressed.

She could lie. It would be easy.

But something about the weight of the night, the broken cinder block, Daniel's anger, Silver's smile, made the words stick in her throat.

"...I broke a cinder block," she admitted. Her mother blinked. "With my hand."

A beat of silence passed. "Silver told you to do that?" her mother asked carefully.

Gia nodded once. "He wanted me to prove something."

Her mother's mouth pressed into a thin line. "And you did it?"

"Yeah." Another pause. Then Gia added quietly, "I split it."

Her mother shook her head slightly, still staring at the bandage. "Gia..."

Gia nodded slowly, her fingers tightening slightly around the edge of the bandage. Her voice wavered when she spoke, though she tried to keep it steady.

"I know he helped Dad," she said quietly. "And I don't want him getting into trouble because of me."

She swallowed, her eyes flicking down for a moment before lifting again. "But I can't just sit there and pretend Silver's helping me either."

The words came out more firmly now. "You told me that if something ever felt wrong, I should come to you," she continued. "That I shouldn't keep it to myself."

Her gaze held her mother's. "And it doesn't feel right."

Her mother drew in a slow breath, then gently cupped Gia's face in both hands, forcing her to meet her eyes. "I hear you, Giovanna," she said softly. "Tell me everything. I'll take care of it."
