drown me

it started as a sprinkle
a little anguish mixed in
and i instantly felt like
my life was collapsing underneath
my feet, a mountain falling away
your words were a landslide
your soft tone was a skimming stone
your meek demeanor a bellowing siren

throughout my body, there was
the chanting, their voices as loud
as a whale's call, deep within the depths
and it pestered me like termites might
when a foundation is wavering in its
construction, slamming against my chest
as though a monster is attempting to
reel out from its cage

i would allow you to put my head under
the waves if you wanted
(i would offer you the best defense against
these piercing eyes and this unstable mind)
