The first time she ever met the Doctor was at her mother's wedding.

Her mum, her fiancé, and the Trickster had disappeared in a cloud of black smoke. The Doctor had run forward, as well as Jane into the space they had once been standing. Everyone else in the room was sitting there, shocked, as they looked at the empty space where the strange man was standing.
The room still felt as if it was shaking, and a pulse of energy seemed to echo through the space until everyone but the five of them had disappeared.
"Mum." Rani gasped, looking at the space where her parents had been sitting. "Dad!"
"Everyone hold on." The Doctor commanded, moving to grab onto the table leg. Meanwhile, the older girl stood there a little stunned, her deep brown hues wide at the situation that had just unfolded. A force, the same one that had made everyone disappear, knocked her to the floor. An arm came around her waist, pulling her towards someone. Her head gazed back and she saw the arm belonged to the Doctor, who was staring down at her as she did up to him.
Clyde, Rani, and Luke were all still in their chairs, holding onto the seats until a bright light wiped over their vision. The grip on the girl's waist remained, and she had turned slightly to grip onto the lapel of the Doctor's suit.

The white light cleared and the pair stood up, both still holding onto each other. The Doctor coughed, dropping his grip while looking down at the girl. "You okay, Janey?"
She could do nothing but nod in response, her grip dropping too once he did. "I think so." Her dark gaze looked around the room until it saw her brother lying on the ground. Jane rushed over to him, kneeling beside him and gently shaking his shoulder. The Doctor came and kneeled next to her.
"Luke? Luke Smith." The man spoke looking down at the boy he mentioned, his eyes fluttering open at the sound of his name.
"Doctor? Jane?" It was safe to say the boy was a little disoriented.
"That's me. Good to meet you in the flesh."
"What, what happened? Mum and the Trickster." Luke moved to sit up, the pair moving out of his way so he could do so.
"Luke, Luke, Luke, Luke, listen to me. Everything's going to be all right. I can find Sarah. I can bring her back. I promise. But I need you to be strong for me, just like you were before. I know you can do it." The Doctor spoke with such haste, each word running into another but Jane could understand him perfectly - meanwhile Luke still looked a little confused.
Rani and Clyde had been thrown further from the rest, both now pushing themselves up after they had awoken. Clyde had landed half under the table, sitting up with the table cloth over his head. "Who are you?"
"Hello, Clyde." The Doctor stood up and moved over to the boy who had spoken, offering his hand to help him up. Once pulled to his feet, he moved over and did the same to the other girl. "And this will be Rani."
Rani seemed to snatch herself away from the strange man, backing herself against the wall. It was clear the pair had no idea who he was. It was Clyde to speak up again first, "What? How'd you know my name?" The Doctor hadn't answered him, instead of moving and lowering himself to the floor where Jane's mum had gone missing.
"Wait a moment. You must be. It's you, isn't it?" Rani seemed to put the pieces together first out of the two. A finger was pointed at the strange man, she walked towards him and grinned. "The Doctor."
