The first time she ever met the Doctor was at her mother's wedding.

"We can use you to lock onto her." The Doctor was ranting, some words the young woman understood and some were so fast that she missed them entirely. "The Trickster said you were special, let's see how."
A lever was thrown and the pair gripped onto the console, but instead of being scared, Jane was excited. Laughter bubbled from her lips, looking up at the machine doing it's work. It truly was amazing.
Soon enough, they were landing, the pair of them standing at the open doors to the Tardis. That familiar pull was still there, keeping them from being there for too long.
"Sarah!" "Mum!"
The pair both cried out at the same time, gripping so tightly at the door frame their knuckles were turning white.
"Doctor. Jane." Sarah Jane looked so happy to see them, and so incredibly proud of her daughter who was working with him.
"Got to be quick. The Tardis can't stabilise. Clyde's keeping the Trickster busy for the moment. Oh, those three are just brilliant. And this one -" He paused turning his head to grin at the woman standing next to him. "Is beyond brilliant. She's special."
"Doctor, what can I do? If I say no, we're trapped here forever. If I say yes, I condemn the world to the Trickster. Either way I lose. There's no way out." Sarah Jane seemed torn, and her daughter's brows furrowed at her words. She couldn't imagine the inner battle her mother was having.
Peter was standing behind the woman, glance flickering between his bride and the mad man in a box. He was worried, worried he was going to say something that would ruin everything. The Doctor looked at the woman sternly. "It all rests with you, Sarah. Your greatest challenge. The hardest thing you'll ever face in your life."
"What is it? Tell me what I've got to do."
"You know what you have to do, Mum." It was her daughter replying, looking at the other woman sadly. "We've fought him before. You know what needs to happen now."
Her mum looked back at her fiancé. "Oh, no. No." Sarah Jane was trying not to have a breakdown in front of her daughter, she didn't want to let her down.
"I'm sorry, Peter. I would have loved for you to be my father." Jane looked over to the older man, a sad, small smile upon her lips.
"I know you're a good man, Peter. I'm so sorry." The Doctor added, sending a rather pitiful glance at him.
Before much more could be said, the Trickster and Clyde appeared in a wave of black mist, blue energy balling in the middle of their arrival. They were both screaming, and the energy sent the Tardis away. It was dematerialising before the pair inside could do anything about it.
Jane was once again sent to the floor and this time she just sat there as the time lord ran around. Was her mother going to do the right thing? She had no doubt, but she knew it wasn't going to be easy.

Soon, the pair had managed to land the Tardis downstairs and grabbed the rest of the group to run up to the room. Finally, her mother was there with Clyde - there were all back together again.
"Mum!" Luke ran forward, heading straight for his mother and his friend.
"Luke. Doctor. Jane. Oh, Doctor." Tears were filling Sarah Jane's eyes as she looked up at her friends and family that were now all together again. Luke, Rani, and Jane had all rushed to her side, kneeling on the floor and looking down at Clyde.
