We all sit around the living room, me sitting beside Vanya and Klaus on the couch, Klaus making a drink in the bar for himself, sitting in awkward silence. I still hadn't seen Luther until just now, which was strange, and he looked strange, like the moon had some crazy side effects that made him look like a body builder, but me and him weren't ever super close, he spent most of his time with Allison. I stare at my feet in the silence, until Luther stands up to speak.
"I guess we should get this started. So I figured we could have a sort of memorial service in the courtyard at sundown. Say a few words, just at Dad's favourite spot." Luther says,
"Dad had a favourite spot?" Allison questions, and Luther looks over at her.
"You know, under the oak tree. We used to sit under there all the time, None of you ever did that?" Luther asks, all of us shaking our heads. Luther always spent time with dad, he was the last to leave, and it was only because dad sent him to the moon.
"Will there be refreshments?" Klaus says, lighting a cigarette and walking around with his drink. "Tea, scones? Cucumber sandwiches are always a winner."
"What? No, and put that out dad didn't allow smoking in here." Luther says, classic Klaus. Classic Luther. Sometimes it was good to be back.
"Is that my skirt?" Allison spits out at him in confusion, Klaus looking back.
"What? Oh yeah this! I found it in your room, it's a little dated, I know, but it's very breathey on the bits." Klaus says, gesturing to his privates as I smile, trying not to laugh.
"Listen up, still some important things we need to discuss alright?" Luther says, very sternly.
"Like what?" Diego says, leaning forward in his chair.
"Like the way he died." Luther spits back at him.
"And here we go." Diego says annoyed.
"I don't understand, I thought they said it was a heart attack." Vanya says quietly, as I furrow my eyebrows. I didn't understand either, Wasn't it something like that? Heart failure? I don't remember.
"Yeah according to the corner." Luther says with a breath.
"Well, wouldn't they know?" Vanya asks.
"Theoretically." Luther says, looking down at the ground while we all stare in confusion.
"Theoretically?" I say, looking over at him.
"I'm just saying, at the very least, something happened." Luther says, pacing a little bit in his spot. "The last time that I talked to dad, he sounded strange.
"Oh, quelle suprise!" Klaus gurgles on his alcohol.
"Strange how?" Allison asks, quieting Klaus by shushing him with her finger.
"He sounded on edge. Told me I should be careful who to trust." Luther says worried.
"Luther, he was a paranoid, bitter old man, who was starting to loose what was left of his marbles." Diego says, standing up and facing Luther.
"No, he must have known something was going to happen." Luther says back, giving Diego that classic stink eye, then looking at Klaus. "Look, I know you don't like to do it, but I need you to talk to dad."
Allison scoffs from across the room,
"I can't just call dad from the afterlife and be like 'Dad, could you just.. stop playing Tennis with Hitler for a moment and take a quick call?'" Klaus says jokingly, as I again hold back laughter. He was funny as hell most times, I loved it.
"Since when? That's your thing." Luther spits at him.
"Im not in the right... frame of mind." Klaus says.
"You're high?" Allison yelled out in annoyance.
"Yeah! Yeah!" Klaus chuckles out, leaning back into the couch. "I mean, how are you not, listening to this nonsense?" Klaus says, talking with his hands as per usual.
"He's got a point." I spit out, sinking back into my seat.
"Well sober up! This is important." Luther angrily says. "Then there's the issue of the missing monacle."
"Who gives a shit about a stupid monacle?" Diego says with his breath, turning his head to the side.
"Exactly. It's worthless. So whoever took it, I think it was personal. Someone close to him, someone with a grudge." Luther says, looking at us all individually.
"Where are you going with this?" Klaus blurts out, confused.
"Oh, isn't it obvious, Klaus? He thinks one of us killed Dad." Diego says, giving Luther a threatening look. He sighs in defeat as we all stare at him in disbelief. I mean, none of us even gave a shit about dad? Why the hell would we kill him? He was a piece of garbage as a person and an even worse father but still.
"You do?" Klaus says in a sad tone.
"How could you think that?" Vanya says in disbelief.
"Great job, Luther. Way to lead." Diego spits out at him, before walking away.
"That's, not what I'm saying-" Luther tries to say.
"You're crazy, man. You're crazy. Crazy." Klaus says, getting up and extingushing his cigarette.
"I'm not finished!" Luther says as we all get up to leave.
"Sorry, I'm just going to go murder Mom I'll be right back." Klaus says before leaving the room.
"That's not what I'm saying! I didn't-" Luther tries to get us to all stay, but to no avail. He sighs in discouragement.
"You know, Luther, we all hated Dad for what he did to us. But not even Diego or Klaus or ANY of us would stoop that low." I angrily say, before walking away, leaving Luther.
-----
As I hear the shots ring out, I knew it was go time. I push Luther to go first, as he sprints and jumps through the glass, breaking down and throwing a man out of the window. We sprint to the floor, me screaming 'come on!' as we use the fire escape to come down to the main lobby. Diego goes next, screaming out,
"Guns are for sissies, real men throw knives!" As the throws a knife, stabbing another one of the robbers to the wall. I walk in, my powers whirring in my hands as I see a robber.
"Hey, I'll be taking that!" I shout as I pull the gun out of the robber's hands, as it comes flying towards me. I catch it, smiling as I hold it in my hands. "Thanks!" I say and fling a lamp at the guy, it smashing on his head. I gather with the rest of the group, smiling as I slide the gun across the floor.
"get back you freaks!" One of the robbers says, standing on the counter with a gun pointed at us.
"Hey, be careful up there, buddy!" Diego says and I snicker, looking over at him.
"Get back now!" The robber shouts out.
"Yeah, wouldn't want you to get hurt." Allison says tauntingly.
"Or what?" Five says, appearing behind the robber, smiling as the robber aims a gun at him, shooting a bunch as Five jumps behind him. The man tries to shoot the gun, but instead Five replaces it with a stapler, the man clicking it to no avail, I snicker in amusement.
"Ooh! That's one badass stapler!" Five says as he pushes the stapler to his face, leaving a huge mark as the robber falls to the ground. We go towards the door, Ben and Klaus showing up, as we needed Ben for this part. We take all the hostages to free them, with only one room left, the vault, filled with all the other robbers.
"Do we really have to do this?" Ben asks quietly.
"Come on, Ben. There's more guys in the vault." Luther says, as Ben sighs.
"I didn't sign up for this." He says unamused as he enters the vault. We let all the hostages free, as they run out the doors of the bank. They didn't need to see Ben's horrific powers. Not that they scared me, but the public? Absolutely. There would be a lot of blood. As Ben gets started, the blood starts spattering, as the screams filled the air, you could see Ben's tentacles flying, killing left and right as the beast roars. Ben comes out, covered head to toe in blood, sighing and breathing shakily. "Can we go home now?"
We walk out of the doors, all standing together for all the news outlets around to see, the noise and helecopters drowning out everything going on in my head. This was my life now. I feel Klaus' arm wrap around my waist and pull me closer, smiling for the cameras. I smile, waving and smiling at the cameras and microphones surrounding us. We wait for Dad to come down, and give his speech. Klaus whispers to me.
"Nice job with the gun and the lamp, suprised you didn't shoot him."
"Oh I thought about it. I knew Dad would go ballistic though." I whisper back, smiling at him. I see Dad come down, standing still as we wait for him. Klaus removes his arm from my waist, standing in full attention like dad practiced. Making me miss his touch. It was comforting.
"Our world is changing." Dad starts, as the news cameras roll and people take pictures. "Has changed. There are some among us gifted with abilities far beyond the ordinary. I have adopted seven such children. I give you, the inaugural class of the Umbrella Academy." He finishes, news reporters asking so many questions I couldn't pay attention to. I look around at all of us, smiling. I felt so lucky to have these guys as my friends, my teammates. We felt unstoppable.
