In 1989, 43 infants were born into the world on the same day in October. The strange part was, none of the women who gave birth were pregnant when the day began. A fateful 8 children were adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist. He creates "The Umbrella Academy", a team consisting of the 8 children who prepare to save the world, stopping crimes and being real life "superheroes", not like the ones you see in comics. All of the children had super human abilities, hence being superheroes.
Number One, Luther, had super strength.
Number Two, Diego, had trajectory curving, and excellent knife throwing skills.
Number Three, Allison, who could rumour people into doing whatever she wanted them to do.
Number Four, Klaus, who could speak to the dead.
Number Five, Five (yeah they never gave him a real name, funny right? Loser), who could teleport.
Number Six, Ben, who could burst tentacles out of his abdomen and kill loads of people.
Number Seven, Vanya, who was just, ordinary. God how I wished to be her.
And me, Number Eight, Aleya, who had telekinesis. Didn't seem like much but just you watch me lift a car and throw it at bad guys with my mind. Not so useless now huh?
That brings me, well, to me, hi. I'm Aleya Hargreeves. I guess you could say I'm unordinary, considering I grew up with 7 world famous assholes, including myself. I wish I could say other wise though, because all I ever wanted since I was younger was to live a normal life like on the TV shows or cartoons. But instead I grew up locked in a giant mansion, learning about how to gouge peoples eyes out and crush pop cans with my mind from my adopted father who barely payed attention to us let alone cared. Our mother was the only one who cared, and she was barely human. Going out was rare, unless it was to stop crime and save the world. That's what we were born and raised to do.
Until we all left to try and live our lives normally.
One by one we all left, I was one of the first to do it. Hell all I wanted was a normal life, I was glad to get to it once I was 18. My dad was a selfish asshole, so what else did I have to loose? Well, I guess my siblings were the ones that kept me alive and sane throughout the shit show. I couldn't have done it without the Girl Talks from Allison in her room late into the night, Ben and me talking about anything and everything, Klaus teaching me how to shotgun a beer at 14, Five and me playing hide and seek outside in the courtyard which was fucking difficult because every time I found him he'd teleport and act like I never found him, Luther and me having tire throwing competitions and Diego trying to be apart of it but failing. Me and Vanya could never play, we weren't ever allowed to, but sometimes I would be able to find a way to talk to her and let her know how jealous I was of her, for being normal and living that kind of life. She never agreed, wishing she could play with us, and I wished she could too. The other assholes thought her being normal wasn't cool, but i envied her so badly, especially when I left.
I went out and got a job at the local paper in Maine, being a coffee runner and lunch runner. It was pretty simple and likeable, especially for the money I got paid. I moved up to actually working for the paper, finally being apart of something big. Got paid big bucks for writing some articles, my dream of becoming a journalist was coming true,
Until Vanya released "Extra Ordinary."
My cover was blown, I couldn't be working for the big paper anymore. If people found out I was working for the paper, I'd be screwed. They knew my name now. They demoted me back to coffee and lunch runner, which I was ultimately pissed about. I was there, I was 90% of the way there. I was going to be a famous journalist someday, and then this book of family secrets ruined me. My identity was sprawled in a 500 some page book. I rented it in the library and read it, she had some good points about our father being selfish, but it was no right to expose all of us! I did everything I could to keep her included.
I guess that wasn't enough.
I lived in a apartment complex, the only thing I could afford being single. It wasn't anything horrible, it was cute and cozy, with no carpet like I preferred. I come home from work, typical Wednesday. I look in my fridge for something to cook for dinner, deciding on paprikash, my favourite comfort food. I suddenly hear a knock on my front door, making me jump slightly, going towards it slowly before peering out the peep hole. It was a, mailman? I thought I had grabbed all my mail today. I slowly open the door, seeing one of my co-workers.
"Hey Jim, what's up?" I say, leaning against the door frame.
"Hey, I didn't know this was where you lived! Um.. this came for you like as soon as you left, we couldn't catch you as you zoomed out of there, which doesn't surprise me. Here you are." He hands me the letter, it looked fancy, addressed to me in cursive with a wax sealer on the back, when I notice the symbol.
An umbrella.
I feel the shock take over my body, seeing the symbol I always saw on my arm, sighing as I scowl at it.
"Everything okay, Aleya?" Jim asks, as I look at him, my train of thought ending.
"Oh, um yeah, just from my family... never really got along with them." I say quietly. "Thank you though, for bringing this here." I say, with a small polite smile.
"Oh yeah no problem! It is my job after all." He says with a smile, starting down the hall. "Have a good night Y/N, see you tomorrow."
"Yeah! See you then!" I yell out as I close the door, staring at the umbrella that was stamped into the red wax whilst sighing. I slowly start to open it, my hands slightly shaking as I did. As I pull out the piece of paper folded up, I give a long sigh. "Probably just a note from Mom or Pogo or something." I say to myself quietly.
I unfold the note, starting to read it as my heartbeat starts going faster. Dad's....
Dead?
