"I have some business to take care of. If any one of you move from your seat I'll hex you into next year." Moody threatens as he leave the classroom. He forced all of us to sit at least three desks away from each other.
"Sketchy isn't he?" I ask.
"Yup." Dean responds.
"This is ridiculous, I have homework I could be doing but instead I'm here serving a detention! And for what? Asking a question?" Hermione whines.
"Well it's Kennedy's fault." Harry says looking at me "If you weren't so out of control Moody wouldn't have gotten mad and gave the rest of us detentions." Harry accuses.
"You are infuriating to be within ten feet of." I insult.
"Good."
The three others continue to watch as we shoot each other rude remarks back and forth.
"Oh will you two stop squabbling like an old married couple!" Seamus interjects, his comment was enough to get the both of us to shut up and look at him as if he were crazy "What? You bicker all the time to the point where people don't want to be near you but at the end of the day you both care about each other, like the other day when Kennedy was talking to Malfoy you couldn't contain yourself from going over to see what he was doing with her." He points out. I turn my head to see how Harry will respond to that.
"I was seeing what the pins were you git." Harry refutes while looking down at his wand that he is now playing with.
"Sure you were." Seamus instigates.
Before Harry can retaliate Moody barges back in. "I'm surprised you're all still here, the five of you seem like the type to sneak around and get into things you aren't supposed to... well maybe not Miss Granger, but definitely the rest of you." He says pointing his finger at us, he goes over to his drawers and retrieves three more flasks then begins to go back for the door knob but I'm a very curious girl and can't help myself but question him. Of course I also get enjoyment out of his frustration.
"Professor." I call, he turns around slowly "Where are you off to on this fine evening?" Harry rolls his eyes at my soft and innocent tone, Moody doesn't buy it either. Instead he comes up to my desk similarly to when he was handing Harry's detention out.
"None of your business, you unworthy teenage girl." And with that he exits again.
"I hate him." I mutter.
"He can say the same for you, Kennedy." Dean chimes in. I glare back at him while Seamus and Harry seems to get a kick out of Dean's comment. Hermione sits with her legs crossed and her hands placed neatly in her lap, waiting for the clock to say 5:00. He's making us stay until 5:00. Cruel if you ask me, it's Friday and we are spending it in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.
"This is absurd." I begin while turning around in my chair, putting both legs on either side of the back of the chair. "Usually we'd be at some party or something, we should come up with something fun to do." I suggest.
"Well I've got this." Dean reaches in his pocket.
"No way." I gasp.
"What is it?" Hermione anxiously questions while biting her nail.
"Hey you didn't tell me you got that!" Seamus exclaims in excitement.
"Bloody hell what is it?" Harry demands.
"It's the key to Filch's office." I say, my grin growing larger.
———————————————
"If we get caught I'm not taking the blame, I only came along to not be the only one left in that dreadful classroom." Hermione insists. She's been a nervous reck the whole time. We're just about to get in, if Seamus can learn how to work a key properly.
"Give me that." I command, he hands the small metal object to me and I place it into the key whole and twist one, two, three times.
"What key twists three times? And how did you know that?" Harry questions.
"A magic one, and this isn't my first time getting into Filch's office. I'm no first year." I brag.
I waltz into the office and begin to snoop through the drawers, Hermione closes the door behind us and doesn't move much further than there. The rest of us look for something exciting to take
"Hey, what's that?" Dean asks pointing at a large book titled
The Official Professors Records
"Oh I don't know, maybe it's professor records." I say sarcastically while flipping it open. It lands on a page where at the top the name of our former Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Remus Lupin.
"Close that!" Harry demands. He quickly realizes how harsh he sounded and corrects himself "I mean, these are teacher files we shouldn't read them."
"I agree." Hermione pipes in.
"He was a werewolf?" Seamus exclaims. I slide the book closer to me so I can read it for myself.
"Yeah I guess so." Dean says. I see Harry and Hermione exchange weird looks.
"This isn't just any book of records, this is anything that any teacher has ever done wrong recorded into one page for each of them. It's like a permanent record but for the professors." I solve. Harry seems to ease up a little bit, he flips through the pages until he gets to Professor Lockheart.
"I hated that guy." He mumbles. Seamus and Dean agree.
"What about Moody? Let's see what trouble he's gotten into." I suggest. Nobody seems to be opposed to the idea, with the exception of Hermione who was against even leaving the classroom.
I put my finger on the "M" tab and pull the pages to the spot. I go back and fourth but he's not in there. We figure it's because it's only his first year teaching here. We don't really find much else so we get ready to leave, I take the
book with me though. It could be useful later. We make it out of the office quietly and begin back to the classroom, it's perfectly normal for students to be roaming the halls right now, but if we bump into Moody that's another story.
The door is ajar when we get back to the classroom, the last one to leave was Hermione.
"Did you shut the door all the way?" I ask before I reach for the knob.
"I don't remember." She defends.
"Brilliant." Harry mutters.
"Well only one way of finding out." Dean says pushing past all of us and opening the door. To our luck, the classroom is empty and we still have five minutes to 5:00.
We all go back to our original seats and act like we've been there the whole time, I can practically feel Hermione's tension. The rest of us couldn't really care less if Moody found out. Yes of course it would be a burden if we had to serve another detention or something but we don't really take it as seriously as Hermione. This was her first detention ever, I'm sure she'll be in a bad mood for the weekend.
Moody opens the door to the classroom quickly and walks in suspecting us to be gone I'm assuming, he looks surprised when all of us are sitting in the same spot as when he was previously here. "Most professors would give some inspirational speech on why you should try to stay out of trouble, but I don't care what you all do with your lives. Just get out."
And we do, as fast as we can. Dreading the next time we have to enter the room.
