I watched Yve sleeping beside me. When she turned her back earlier and she closed the door to the bathroom, I felt my world crumble. She's given too much and it scared me to take that step towards her because she might disappear.

But she was brave enough for us. She was strong enough for both of us.

I haven't told Yve, but I couldn't possibly have gotten Laura pregnant because I haven't had an erection since my accident. That's also why I couldn't believe something happened between us. Even when she did everything to try and seduce me, it didn't matter, it wouldn't get up.

So when she told her friend about it, I thanked God it was so. Whatever happens after, it would mean I didn't have sex with another woman while we were apart. No, it means she's the only one I've ever made love to and will ever make love to.

Yes Laura kissed me, but I never kissed her back, it was just always her kissing me.

My phone rang on my bedside table, it was dad. I picked it up before it woke Yve up.

Me: yes dad.
Dad: JC, can we talk?
Me: sure dad.
Dad: I got a call from Jason earlier.

Jason was his colleague in the hospital. He transferred to New York when dad retired. He is the head of the hospital where Laura works now, after I told mom I didn't need a personal nurse anymore, that is.

Me: what's up?
Dad: Laura had her inquiry, and she submitted her case.
Me: what did she say?
Dad: Jason said her defense was she was being set up. But she had another test and she still tested positive although there was minimal trace of the heroine this time. This was taken when you left to come home.
Me: and?
Dad: she said she has proof who's doing it.
Me: who does she think would do that?
Dad: your mother.
Me: mom?
Dad: yes.

There's something dad's not telling me.

Me: dad, what's wrong?
Dad: she went to the press and told them about what your mother did to the investigation of your accident.
Me: we're they able to dig up anything?
Dad: no. Of course not. Your mother's one of the top lawyers in the U.S., do you think they'd find any proof of something done quietly years ago?
Me: what did mom do?
Dad: she proved that Yve didn't tamper with the car because she wasn't in the U.S. Then she didn't claim the insurance money, Laura on the other hand, spiked you medication.
Me: how did she know that?
Dad: I asked her to file the case.
Me: what?
Dad: she's one of the best, and she needs to do this for you, for everything she made you go through.

Ok. So dad's right, I might not like what she did but she's one of the best.

Me: ok. So what now?
Dad: Laura's backed in the corner and she's desperate. She might try something against your mom.
Me: you need to protect her.
Dad: I know. I just thought you should know.
Me: thanks dad.
Dad: and JC?
Me: yes dad?
Dad: she said she's sorry.
Me: yeah, well. Ok.
Dad: I just said I'd pass the message. She's not expecting an answer.
Me: thanks dad.
Dad: you're welcome. How's Yve? How'd your day go?

That made me smile. Dad loves my wife like she's his own daughter. Probably more now than he did before my accident.

Me: she's asleep now. We put the kids to bed. They have their own rooms, they're really cute and it was daddy's day today so I told them they had to tell me why they wanted each and every toy they were asking me to buy for them. I never thought listening to two little children who's barely 3 could be so fascinating.
Dad: indeed.
Me: and dad?
Dad: yes Jace?
Me: she never used any of the money I left her, I mean she didn't take any from our joint accounts.
Dad: yes, she never did.
Me: she just makes me feel so proud to be her husband.
Dad: she's really amazing and she's such a wonderful mother.
Me: I know dad.
Dad: is something bothering you Jace?
Me: uh, dad. It's nothing really.
Dad: ok, just call me if you want to talk.
Me: uh, dad.
Dad: yes Jace?
Me: I had a few operations and I haven't had an erection since the accident.
