"The Lovers." Magnus states, turning over a tarot card and smiling at Clary "You are in a loving relationship." Clary looks up at me and smiles nervously, her hands twiddling awkwardly before her, since getting our cards read isn't exactly what we were here for.
"Tonight will define your relationship." Magnus continues as he turns the next card, his voice dropping a few octaves. I smile back at him as naturally as I can muster, whilst my eyes take in his appearance, and I try not to look utterly bewildered. The Magnus I knew would never wear something so... boring, and plain.
This dimension was really proving to be nowhere near the same as what we had back home.
I can imagine Magnus's outrage at seeing himself in this dimension.
"You hope he is your soul mate. But secrets revealed will threaten to tear you apart." He mutters, his face dropping at Clary's frown, and I sigh, not being shocked by the downside, since everything that happens in our lives seems to always have a downside.
No matter how dandy everything seems here, I know that now we are here, infiltrating into uncharted territory, things won't stay nearly as happy.
My mind contemplated what the cards could mean, but Clary and I are both dragged out from our day dream as a small and graceful grey furred cat bounces onto the table before us, surprising both Clary and I.
"You don't have a cat" Clary deadpans, perplexed as she stares eyes wide at Magnus holding his cat, caressing it's fur as it purred gratefully.
"I have two." He states simply "Chairman Meow... and Church." He mumbles lowly, and as my eyes follow along I notice the larger, grumpier looking cat sat lazily on the side and I have to stop myself from chuckling when a look of distaste crosses Magnus's face as Church growls back at him gruffly.
"Look" I start, pulling out a chair and sitting next to Clary, immediately catching Magnus's undivided attention. "We are not actually here for a reading. We know you're a warlock, Magnus, we are Shadowhunter's." I swiftly say, not bothering to sugar coat it but by the disbelieving and confused look on Magnus's face, I could tell he didn't believe us.
Hell, I wouldn't believe us either.
"There are no more Shadowhunter's. Haven't been for hundreds of years." He says, smirking slightly, probably thinking us to be a pair of crazy girls, clearly on drugs or some sort of intoxicant.
Which is fair, I did think the others were crazy when I first met them.
I sigh, rolling my eyes before swiftly standing up and grabbing a pad and a pencil nearby before sketching on it, my hand moving speedily, knowing we had to convince him.
Time was running out.
"We are from another dimension" Clary explains, eyeing my sketch over my shoulder.
