~Chapter 2~

"You want a child?" William stared at his flamboyant lover from his desk at the dispatch. He was in the middle of going through files when he was interrupted by Grell barging into his office declaring (loudly) that she wanted a child.

"Grell, are you ill?" William said. He stood and pressed a hand on Grell's forward. "Come to think of it, you did hit your head fairly hard the other day while you were out reaping souls. Perhaps you should lay down and get some rest?"

"Will! I'm FINE!" Grell whined. "I'm NOT sick NOR injured!" She sulked and crossed her arms. "I just simply want to have a baby..."

Bewildered by Grell's sudden wish, William said, "Grell, you hate children. For as long as I've known you, you have always referred to them as pests and never wanted anything to do with them. Remember your days when you had to work in the daycare while you were suspended from reaping? "

"I do remember..."  Grell frowned,  shuddering at those dreadful memories.

"Exactly. Not only that, but half the time you won't  even show up for your students and they are young adults."

"Late teens, you mean." Grell corrected.

"My point is," William adjusted his glasses. "If you can't bear to look after small children temporarily nor commit to teaching a group of students old enough to be trained in field experience, what makes you think that you will be able to care for a child, especially a toddler or a baby, everyday?"

"That's just the thing!" Grell said excitedly. "I have thought this through... I don't want just ANY child. I want to adopt (Y/N)!"

"Who?" William asked, confused.

“Did you really forget again?"

"I typically don't concern myself with that sort of thing," William replied blandly.

"In that case, I'll explain it again: The only well behaved child that I was able to TOLERATE during my caregiver days. The one whose parents didn't pick up and CPS got involved! This was merely a year ago."

"Hmm... yes I remember now. Although I don't think this is a wise idea, if anything an awful one..." William muttered that last bit. " You are free to do as you wish."

He fixed his gaze on the redhead and spoke sternly.

"But do know that the child will ultimately be none other than your responsibility. As you see, I'm not exactly the fatherly type."

Grell placed her hand on her hips. "Well as my husband, you MUST play a role in this somehow. I'm not going to act like a single mum as a MARRIED woman."

"I can help financially, and offer civility to the child. But that's about it. Besides, children are typically no more fond of me than I am of them. And another thing: The only way I am willing to carry on through with this is if we wait until the child is a bit older. Do you remember how old this (Y/N) was when you last saw them?"

Grell paused to think. "Hmm... if I remember right, (Y/N) was just three years old, and that was a year ago so they would be four now. But why does it matter how old they are?"

"Has this sudden desire of yours really taken over your mind?  Think about it. Children are normally freshly toilet trained around that age. Do you really want to be in a position of having to clean up accidents?"

A faint shade of green slowly spread on Grell's face. She fought against the upcoming gag creeping up at her throat as she tried not to visualize potential toilet accidents. Grell would much rather leap off a cliff than change a diaper.

"No," Grell replied. "Not at all."

“Exactly. Should you follow through with this, the child must be no younger than six. By then they should be long toilet trained. And it would give you plenty of time to really think about if you want to do this.”

“So… you really are going to let me adopt (Y/N)?”

“As long as we agree that,” Before William could finish his sentence, he was abruptly tackled away from his chair onto the floor. His whole body was pinned to the ground beneath Grell's weight as his whole face was attacked by 50 kisses per minute.

"Oh Will, THANK YOU!" She rubbed her face vigorously on the man's shoulder while hugging him tightly. William just laid there gasping for air as he tried to process what just happened.

"Can I just ask you one little favor?" Grell had her forefinger on her mouth in a cutesy manner.

"W-what is it?"

"I realize I can't remember (Y/N)'s last name and without it, there is no way we can try to find them. Since you have more access to everything in this place, could you see about tracking it down for me?"

"I'm sure we would still have those records. I'll do what I can, as I do care for your happiness. But in the meantime, don't you have some souls to reap and students to teach? You better get to it before our superiors catch us like this."

Grell sighed sadly. "I suppose..." She stood, allowing William to bring himself off the ground as well. She began walking towards the door before coming to a halt at the door.

"Because you're helping me," Grell said seductively. "I will give you a nice reward tonight..." She left, leaving William alone in his office.

Not a single muscle twitched on William's face. But when he sat down and tried to focus on his work, a bright shade of pink glowed in his cheeks.

"So when do I get to come home with you?" You asked.

"I'm afraid I don't have the answer yet." Still facing the window, Grell looked at you over her shoulder. "And sadly, I won't be able to make set arrangements today."

"Oh..." You bowed your head.

Grell chuckled and walked toward you. She placed a hand on your shoulder.

"Darling, no need to be disappointed! I WOULD be able to make arrangements to come pick you up today. But there is some paperwork that needs to be filled out and signed by both Will and I. But as you can see, Will wasn't able to make it. So I have to bring the paperwork TO Will and get him to sign it before I have to bring it back again."

"Hmm..." Was the only response you could come up with.

"Don't worry, you'll be out of here before you know it," Grell reassured you.

It wasn't long before your foster parent returned back to the office. "I can see you two are having a lovely chat! Grell, here are the forms that you and your husband need to go over."

"I'll have them filled out right away." Grell smiled and took the forms. She turned to you.

"Well, it looks like I must get going. The sooner I get this to Will, the sooner I can come back and make official arrangements."

She bent down to give you one more hug.

"Don't worry, dear. I will be back here before you know it."
