The night was frigid. Hosea's rain had turned into a late June snow that coated the camp in a light frost.Despite having their wood burning stove at the back of their tent, Fae and Javier found themselves shivering through the night, stuck together like glue. Suffering through one last cold night together. Then in the morning when the air was damp and frosty, Javier took the time to leave her for a moment to get some more wood and a cup of coffee for her. Fae woke the moment he was gone, laying in the stillness and the cold, eagerly waiting for his return. When he did: he set a cup of coffee on the nightstand by her head, his rough calloused fingers ran over her cheek then up into her recently washed locks, before turning away to rebuild the fire and get ready for the day. Fae drifted off for a few more minutes only to wake for one last time to the sound of his jacket falling onto his shoulders. She rolled away from the wall of the tent, letting out a small groan followed by a quiet moan as she stretched.

"Good morning." Javier said in a more cheerful tone than normal, as he flattened his jacket collar.

Fae kept her eyes sealed shut," Hi." she quietly groaned in a morning voice.

The sound of his boots and spurs clicking in the plank floor were harsh on her ears, she sunk deeper into the pillows on her bed. Javier sat on the edge of her bed, running his hand on her hip and up onto the curve of her waist, before reaching up to her hair and running his hand over the side of her head. Fae smiled contentedly, his hands were warm, they were always warm.

Fae exhaled through her nose,"What time is it?"

"Nearly eight." Perfect almost time for Susan's daily hail down

"It's cold."

"I know, baby." He pulled the blankets over her shoulder, then brushed the hair off her neck and began to plant kisses from her collar bone to her jaw," But the stove will heat up in a bit, and then you really won't wanna get out of bed. So you should do it now."

She giggled and squirmed as his mustache tickled her neck," Okay, okay,I will!" Fae opened her eyes for the first time that morning, and the first thing she noticed was his slightly lopsided necktie.

Fae pulled herself up on her arms before sitting all the way and tying his necktie, as she straightened it on his neck her fingertips accidentally brushed against the scar across his neck. She set the necktie flat on his neck, and reached up with her thumbs, she was never gonna be brave enough to ask for the story behind his slit throat. If he wanted her to know, she would.

Javier tenderly reached down and took her hands, holding them away from the scar," Everyday I'm thankful that didn't work." Fae set her hand on his face as sadness took over him, he ran his hands from her wrists, down her arm and then pulled her in by her waist. She planted a kiss on his cheek before wrapping her arms around his neck. Whatever it was, whenever it was, she had an inkling that part of him bled out that day.

She kissed his cheek one more time as she pulled out of her hug, and returned to the red necktie," You need to shave." She chuckled as she finished with the necktie, planting a quick kiss on his lips before dashing off to her vanity table. Now she had him chuckling too.

"Oh that reminds me." she said as her hairbrush tamed her locks,"The hammer on my rolling block has been acting up, would you mind taking a look at it for me?"

He nodded, then looked at the rifles by the entrance of the tent," Of course."

"And I think Tupelo is walking with a limp, would you check and make sure I'm not going crazy?"

"Sure." He stood and walked behind her chair, placing his hands on her shoulders," Anything else, dear?" He asked sweetly

Fae tilted her head back and looked up at him, smiling before puckering her lips,"Coffee?"
