A tense and eerie wind trickled down the cliff side. There was silence, anticipation, a looming anxiety as they shivered in the snow. Fae noticed soon after she couldn't feel her fingertips, just how nervous she was. Anxiety before a job was normal, but something about this felt different, like there would be consequences this time. Consequences they would have to deal with.
Dutch, Arthur, and Finnick sat at the front of the group, giving the others a moment to pile in. Dutch and Finnick discussed for a moment before Dutch looked back over his cold blooded killers," Alright gentlemen." He clapped his hands together," Are we goddamn...ready?" There was excitement back in his voice as he rallied his men, each one sounding off," And you Bennett, still with us?"
With a nod of her head, Fae quietly said," With you, Dutch."
"Good." He pointed to Arthur and Finnick to his right," Now, Mr.Morgan, Finnick, and I are gonna head up here a little. See if we can't get a sense of the camp. Miss. Bennett, Mr. Williamson, Mr. Bell, you three take a position just outside the camp.Mr. Summers, Mr. Escuella, you two hold position here.." After taking a moment to catch his breath, and making sure everyone understood his orders, he gave a final nod,"Let's go."
Dismounting Daisy, she gave the horse a quick pat on the shoulder, before handing her reins to Javier. She then took the rifle from her shoulder, setting it safely in his arms," Just remember to breathe and relax, trust your aim. There's no shame in taking time to line up your shots."
"I'd feel better knowing you had it."
"And I'd feel better knowing you're watching my back." She gave him a soft smile," Extra rounds in my saddlebags.... I'll see you down there."
He paused for a moment, carefully grabbing her left hand," I want you to kno-"
"Come on woman!" Micah called, then whispered something under his breath.
Fae gave Javier an unsatisfied look, before giving his cheek a small kiss, and following Micah and Bill down the hillside,"What was that Micah?"
"Don't start with him Fae, you've seen how it ends." Bill said
"It was nothing, Miss.Bennett." He sounded as if he was mocking her name
She sneered and rolled her eyes, god she hated him. Fae never saw what Dutch saw in him, but he had to see something. Maybe it's because he was a ruthless killer and didn't ask questions. Maybe it's because he's the biggest ass-kisser in the whole world.
"Watch your step, it's steep here." Micah said as the hill twisted and turned into a downward slope.
Bill stopped and waited, taking Fae's hand and guiding her down," Awe Mr.Williamson, who would have known you were a gentleman." she smiled
He rubbed the back of his neck as the two got back down to solid ground," Ah its-a-its nothing Miss. Fae, just want to make sure you don't fall again."
" Is that the cold or did your cheeks just dust red?" She playfully hit him on the shoulder.
He was always sweet on her, Bill. Doing little things like always asking if she was okay, or if she needed to talk when Javier made her mad, that big old mean drunk even remembered her birthday. Brought her flowers a time or two as well. Fae wanted nothing to do with him romantically but he did make a good friend and ally. And it always made her feel good knowing she had another person watching her back, especially with someone like Micah around.
"Will you two stop flirting!" Micah ordered," We're getting close!"
"Please Micah, you wouldn't know flirting, even if it hit you in the face!" Fae chuckled.
