Tensions began to louden over her thundering heart in her ear. She looked around in the empty streets, questioning if she could really do this. Fae's eyes glanced over to the boys that stood on the porch of the saloon, Smithsfeilds. She watched as bets passed around the crowd that grew . Fae gripped the leather reins that controlled the stallion beneath her, as he stomped at the ground. Then Finnick stepped down from the porch, his pistol in his hands. He shakily loaded the gun as he walked over to his position. He found his place, gave Fae one last nod. She could hear his breath in her ear," Good luck, and don't lose." Then the man in all black rose is silver pistol into the air. After what felt like forever as time stood still, CRACK.

An Hour Earlier

Fae had never ridden an animal that rode so smooth. Her walk was so light, you could hardly tell it was happening. She felt so mightyup top that steed, like she could rule the world.

A few town folk gathered on the fence of the corral at sat behind the stable, Fae couldn't tell if they were looking at the horse or the girl on top. Judging by the way they were snickering and pushing each other with their shoulders, she knew which one it was. But one stranger caught her eye, an older fellow with slicked back white hair. He dressed very nicely compared to some of the others in this town. The stranger rested his foot on the second rail of the fence, a cigarette was placed limply between his fingers, as he reclined on the worn fence. His eyes would dart from Fae, to the horse, to Hosea, from the owner back to Fae. He glared and sent a shiver down Fae's spine, just from the looks of it he could hate.

"I thought I spotted trouble." Finnick's voice lifted Fae's eyes off of the stranger. He wore all black much like the stranger, and boy could Finnick pull off black. Black gloves that accented his rosy skin, a black shirt with rolled sleeves and his collar halfway buttoned, and his classic black hat that dipped over his eyes. This made Fae heat up a little, she pulled on the collar of her shirt as her cheeks blushed red.

"Get a haircut Finnick?" Fae asked drawing her eyes away from him

This time his cheeks blushed," Yeah, it was getting a little shaggy, you like it Miss. Fae?"

"I don't know, shaggy looks good on you."

Finnick chuckled as he leaned on the fence next to Hosea," Why don't you speed it up a little, didn't we come out here to see you ride?"

Fae gave the mare a gentle kick that sped her up into a trot.

"Where did the other boys get off to?" Hosea asked glancing around," Not too much trouble I hope?"

"Their at the saloon, wettin' their whistles, talking to some locals. Nothing interesting yet, mainly just local girls gettin' touchy with them."

"Excuse me?" Fae shouted from the other side of the pen

"Never mind that dear you just focus on your riding." Finnick waved her away," Their mainly looking into what Mary-Beth found."

Hosea nodded, his eyes locked onto Fae as she trotted around the round pen," Good keep your noses out of trouble."

" I know." Finnick huffed," Here comes the boys." He looked over his shoulder

"Fae." Hosea waved her over," Come on over here."

Fae watched the stranger on the fence lift himself and begin making his way towards Hosea and the owner.

"She's a good horse, all I'm asking is a twenty dollars for her. I'll throw in the saddle and some treats for an extra ten." The owner explains

Hosea nodded looking over at Fae once more as she dismounted, then back over at Finnick who had gathered with the rest of the boys at the edge of the stable. But before he could shake the owners and seal the deal, the stranger came up and threw a stack of money at the owner," There's five hundred, keep it." He had a German accent. He V lined it towards Fae and the mare, ripping the reins out of her hands.

"Hey!" Fae yelped as she reached back for the reins," That's my horse!"

The german sighed and pulled on the reins once more, loosening her grip," Not any more, good day."

"There a problem here?" It was Arthur who stepped up followed by the others

"Yes, it appears there's a whiny little girl stuck on my horse. Be a good lad and get her off." The German said pulling on the reins once more, Fae wouldn't budge.

"Excuse me sir, but I'm afraid I was about to sell this horse to this man." The owner said," I'm sure you two can come to an agreement-"

"No, no there's not going to be an agreement." Arthur said grabbing the reins as well," Let go, or I won't hesitate to shoot you, buddy."

"Buddy?" The German laughed," Do you not know who I am, you piss wreaking animal?"

"You watch your words with him!" Fae hissed at him

"No, and nor do we care not to. Now get lost before you get hurt." Finnick added calmly pointing to the road

"Fine, I'll educate you mindless animals. Hope that's not too big of a word. I am Henry Petit-Dubois Müller The Third and I've come all the way from Germany in search for an animal like this."

"Gesundheit." Fae rolled her eyes, mocking his name

Henry snacks his lips and rolled his eyes at the girl," I am a famous German race horse breeder and I need an American broodmare like her, now please unhand the horse."

"Racer huh? Ain't you a little tall?" The owner asked

"Nah, enough of this. You want the horse you can earn it." Arthur said," How about a good old fashion duel, me and you."

"No,no, no one needed to die." Finnick stepped up," How about I drink you for it, everyone knows Germans can't drink."

"Enough of this." Bill followed," How about a coin flip?"

Javier finally stepped forward, it surprised Fae how long it took him to," Or you could leave, and not get shot."

"Enough!" Fae was sick of the bickering, she turned and faced the German eye to eye," If you such a good racer as you claim, there's only one way to settle this."

"You? A woman? Challenging me to a race, Du veräppelst mich doch." He mocked her

"I ain't a bad rider myself, and I'm willing to up the bet." She cocked her head

"Continue." She got Henry's attention

"I know how you Germans like a race, isn't much fun if you aren't losing anything. I'm willing to bet your horse and mine."

"But if I've been listening correctly, you don't have a horse."

Fae looked around, he got her. Then she remembered Hughes! She'll race him on Hughes," My friends horse, he's got a big bay thoroughbred that may interest you."

"What?!" Arthur blurted," Fae you are not betting my horse." She kicked his foot, and glared at him. She gave him a look he'll never forget a look that said, You can trust me, Morgan.

"Fine, but I'll up it more. Five hundred dollars, and I get to lay with you for a night, if I win."

"Woah, woah, woah let's slow down here." Javier said in a cautioning tone as he took Fae by the arm. Fae shook her head at him, and gestured for him to settle down.

" And if I win?" Fae said slowly lifting her eyes back to him

The German chuckled," I won't tell the Pinkerton's I saw you, Engel des Todes."
