Fae woke up to Delilah's chipped tooth smile, and then pain hit her in the face. First it was just sweating intensely, felt like a thousand degrees even the air outside had to be in the negatives. Then she became restless, couldn't hold still.
"Easy honey, you've been passed out for a while. We lost you when I set your ankle." Delilah's hands planted on her hips, she tried to hide a concerned sigh behind a gentle smile. She knew Fae would see through her falseness, her hands moved to her stomach, clinging to her infant. Something she did when she was nervous.
"What the hell happened?" Fae's voice was low and groggy, her hand rubbed the back of her head as she sat up a little," Did I break it?" That would be the cherry on top of the whole situation, her eyes settled on her elevated foot, swollen and purple. It was a sight.
" 'fraid not, think you sprained it maybe fractured it. You should take it easy for a few days."
She rubbed her head more, the pain was indescribable, Fae couldn't call to mind hitting her head," Shit, what happened? You set my ankle? I don't.... remember...I remember is falling and having the wind knocked out of me from the fall. Then cold..dizzy."
"Lenny said when he found you, you were already out, but you woke only for a moment. Charles held you down, I set you ankle, then BAM ." Delilah snaps her fingers, causing Fae to jump a little," You were out like a light. You really have no recollection of that?"
"Not one."
Delilah grabbed the arch on her back and groaned. It was frequent for her to have pains like this. Her feet swollen, her back is purple and blue, her hands double the size, and yet despite all she some how has matured. Maybe that baby would change her for the better, maybe it would change both her and Charles for the better. What little Fae new of Charles.
Fae scooted her feet over and patted the empty place on the couch so she could sit,"Thank you." Delilah muttered wiggling her was into the seat, leaning back on Fae's legs, it hurt but she didn't mind. Fae knew exactly how Delilah felt, the anguish of being five months pregnant, Fae wished she could tell Delilah it got easier from here.
"How's the baby?" Fae asked in a sweet voice as she watch Delilah's hands go in circles on her swollen stomach, it was still so odd to see her like that.
"She was kick'n a little while ago. You should'a seen the smile on Charles' face. To be honest. I think he's more excited then me." she smiled and glanced at Charles from across the room.
Fae smiled, " You both are fine people, this child will be blessed to be born into the hands of kind parents. Many children could only wish for that, so many of us did."
Her cheeks blush, that idea made her happy, Delilah reached for her hand, holding it tight for a moment, then she stood. Slowly, wobbly, and with a few groans mixed in, " I'll go find Javier, he's been itching to see you."
Once she's gone, Fae's left in a motionless room, filled with sleeping people. Snores and the crackle of a fire filled the air. Was it still night, or early morning now?The cabin was rotted and old, Fae was surprised the floors held up for them. It had a musty smell, like smelling an animal pelt, and smelt as if skunks had taken up residence for the past years. But she didn't mind, not one bit. The gang surely has hidden in worse place, so many she can't remember all of them. Maybe if they weren't on the run form the law, this would be a good place to hold up for a while. Also if it weren't so damn cold. Once again, Fae didn't mind. The cold will always remind her of the freezing winters and colder springs of her home, Colorado. A distant memory, a once upon a December.
The cabin door creaked open with a loud eery wail, the cold seeped in within seconds, extinguishing every ounce of warmth. It Javier was , shadowed by Delilah who quickly turned in for a chance to lay down. A half smile crack onto Javier's lips shortly after his brown eyes set on the slickly Fae. He carried his guitar under one arm, and his bed roll under the other. He set his guitar by the door, and walked over to her. Avoiding the sleeping bodies that littered the floor.
"Hey." He whispered, taking her hand, kneeling at her side
"Hi." She kissed his cheek, her hands tightened around his. He was always warm, so warm.
"Are you in any pain?" His voice was gentle, soft, a tone she only heard.
"No more then the normal around, nothing I haven't felt after a day in heels." Fae tried for a gentle laugh, hoping in some way it would wipe the worried look from his face. She was always the one making the jokes, even if it was the wrong time.
He didn't laugh, his hands instead made their way up her arm, his demeanor shrunk. Changing entirely, like holding onto her was the only way to help. He was helpless, she was hurt, and there wasn't anything he could do but hold her," Swanson.." He said quietly," You know how he is, he has to have something we can give you. Anything to help with the pain..Are you cold, is there anything I can do?"
Fae gently shook her weary and dizzy head," Stop worrying, were alive aren't we?
A soft smile found its way onto his anxious face, she was right. They were alive, they were together, her injury could have been a lot worst," You should rest." Javier brushed her hair behind her ear, and kissed her forehead," I'll be here, whatever you need, I won't leave your side." Their eyes met. He had beautiful eyes, the kind you could get lost in," Try to sleep mi amor, I'll put another log on the fire."
He let go of Fae, running his back of his hand down her soft frost bitten cheeks. He gave one final sigh of disapproval before turning for the fire. Her mind was awake, sharp and rushing from the pain. But enough to fight her increasingly heavy eyes. She tryed her best to grit her teeth through the pain to not worry Javier, as she moved herself down into a more comfortable position. The last she needed was for him to get all riled up over a foot injury, lord knows he already has. He tossed his bed roll on the floor next to the couch she was rested one. Taking a final moment, to kiss her hand, then holding onto her one last time.
She was met by his desperate eyes," I love you, you know? And if I could take this pain from you, I would do so in a moment."
Fae couldn't help but smile. Loyal, that wasn't even the right word to use to describe her Javier. He was devoted to her, body and soul. Her pain was his, her joy was his, her sorrow was there for him to carry. And if it came down to the choice of death or loosing her forever, he would choose the bullet every single time.
