Charles POV:

It was a rather typical day on base, just everyone getting some training and tasks done. That was until I was called into Galeforce's office. At first, I thought it'd just be some casual conversation, maybe he got bored just sitting around. Yet, what I heard shocked me to my core.

G-"Ah, Charlie. Go on and sit down.
C-"You seem serious, what's going on?"
G-"It's Henry. Turns out he's broken our agreement, stole something from a jewelry store last week. I'm sorry, but he has to be sent back to The Wall."

I stared with my jaw clenched shut, feeling my heart begin to race. He wasn't serious was he? Over one instance?! Ellie still broke the law all the time, and she hadn't been sent back to prison yet! Once I was able to gather enough thoughts to speak, I tried to convince the General otherwise, feeling tears prick in the corners of my eyes.

C-"Over one thing? Please, don't send him back! No no no, he's been doing so good!"
G-"I'm so sorry, Charlie. But we're going to gather him up tonight for transport. You may want to go see him one more time before that happens. You know that The Wall doesn't allow face to face visitation."

With a deep breath, I stood and left the office, immediately running to my car. I started it up and left for Henry's house, thoughts swirling around in my head. I had to find some way to stop this, I had to save Henry. Otherwise, he'd end up in a cold prison cell for the rest of his life.

As soon as I arrived, I shut off the vehicle and sprinted to the front door, pounding on it. After a few seconds of no response, I knocked again. There was still no answer. Odd, his car was parked in the driveway, and he was a really light sleeper. So, why wasn't he coming to the door?

Panic rose in my chest as I knelt down to pick the locks, succeeding within two minutes. I swung open the door to find pure silence, no evidence of anyone at all being there. Just to be sure, I checked every room from top to bottom, unable to find my best friend.

Eventually, I made my way to the kitchen, finding two pieces of paper on the counter, one with my name and the other with Ellie's. Hesitantly, I picked up the one with my name, tears spilling as I read the words.

'Dear Charles, if you're reading this then I'm sorry you had to find out this way. I broke the agreement I had with the government, and they found out. I just can't go back to prison, so I left. In case you never see me again, just know that I love you. Though I hate I never got the balls to tell you personally. I've loved you from the moment I laid eyes on you. Anyways, I hope to see you again eventually, but I did this for my own sanity.'

Clutching the letter to my chest, I broke down in tears, the weight of everything that occurred in the last hour crashing down on my shoulders. I knew that I had to find him, but how? How was I supposed to locate Henry in this huge city? I hadn't done spy work in years, not since I was 19.

So, trying to use some of my previous skills, I stuffed the letter into my jacket pocket, searching around the house for any other clues as to where he could've run off to. My first spot was his bedroom, finding that Henry had left both his phone behind.

Jackpot!

Typing in the passcode, I began to look through his search history, seeing if he had looked up any places. Only place I could find was a forest about eighty miles away from the military base. He had tried to find a map of the area, including where any caves were.

With that being my one and only lead for the time being, I stuffed the device into my pocket, glancing around for anything else that could be of use. Though I didn't find anything useful, I did grab Henry's favorite jacket, tucking it under my arm.
