(Idea suggested by @Gracie821024, loosely based off of the scene from the movie Titanic where Jack and Rose were in the water after the ships sinking.)

Henry's POV:

As Charles and I exited the helicopter, the freezing cold winter air hit both of our faces, a harsh difference from the warm interior of the aircraft.

For that particular mission, we had to land on an aircraft carrier, due the weather getting increasingly worse, even though Charles could fly in bad weather. Normally that would be okay, but, this time, I was extremely worried about something bad happening.

After all, we were currently in dangerous enemy territory. Just as I was thinking about how risky this whole thing was, an airplane flew over, dropping something. As it fell, both Charles and I immediately recognized it as a bomb.

As a first instinct, I shielded my husband, feeling his hands grip tightly to me as he attempted to protect me as well. Before too long, the ship was sinking due to the extreme damages.

Luckily, we were able to grab life jackets, trying to make it to the front of the ship. Yet, before we could make it, the remainder of the ship shifted, throwing my husband and I into the 28°F water below.

As soon as I surfaced, I immediately searched for Charles, sighing in relief when I saw his red headphones nearby. Yet, as I swam closer, I noticed that he had been knocked unconscious by the toss.

Picking him up, I made sure to hold his head above water, frantically trying to find something to place him on. Thank goodness, I found a floating piece of debris from the ship, placing my beloved husband on top of it.

I also attempted to crawl onto it, quickly realizing that it couldn't hold us both. So, I settled for resting my head on the side, occasionally glancing around for another piece of scrap.

The freezing cold water was eating away at my energy, fast, yet, I still managed to smile, reaching forward and gently playing with the brunettes half frozen hair. I didn't mind that only he could be on the piece of scrap.

As long as he's okay, I'll be okay.

Charles POV:

My eyes slowly opened, finding my vision blurry and my entire body frigid. Slowly turning, I noticed Henry in the water, still alive but not by much. Panic replaced any other emotion, my slightly blue hands gripping his tightly.

Shivering, I attempted to speak, my voice weak.

"Henry...sweetheart."

He turned to look at me, seeming oddly calm  considering the situation we were in. With all of my husbands remaining strength, he leaned towards me and connected our lips, an emotional, yet passionate action.

With that, his eyes slowly closed, tears now pouring from my eyes. I tried my hardest to cry out his name, but my voice just wouldn't let me. So, I simply laid there, holding his hands and crying.

That's when hope began to rise in my chest, spotting an Air Force helicopter approaching with its spotlight on. I turned over on my back, taking one hand and flashing my dog tags, knowing that they'd reflect off of the light. With my other hand, however, I didn't let go of Henry.

The aircraft stopped and hovered above us, a soldier that I actually happened to know being sent down to extract us from the cold water. He initially tried to take me first, but I kept motioning to my husband with pleading whimpers, the soldier eventually getting the hint.

Once Henry was in the helicopter, the same soldier came back down to retrieve me, bringing me into the warm aircraft. I was surprised to see General Galeforce also in there, him being equally as shocked to see me.

Yet, as soon as it clicked in his mind that it was me in front of him, his professional attitude dropped, scooping me up into his arms as he muttered things like,

"Oh Charlie you're freezing cold."
"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have instructed you to land on the carrier."

I finally managed to speak again, trembling as I whispered just loud enough for Galeforce to hear, my vision going to black afterwards.

"Henry...please save him."

                                            - - -

When I woke up again, I was in a hospital bed, hooked up to multiple machines and monitors. Taking in my surroundings, I looked to my right side, seeing my husband in the bed directly beside mine.

A smile formed on my face when I noticed that his heart monitor was in fact beeping, meaning that he had survived. Reaching over, I grabbed his hand, breaking down into joyful tears when I felt that it was warm again.

As I cried, I felt my husband's hand squeeze mine, his grey eyes fluttering open and immediately looking over at me.

"Why are you crying, my love?"

His voice was croaky and still faint, yet I could clearly make out what he had said. With my free hand, I wiped away some of my tears, stumbling over my words.

"I...I thought you died, Hen. I thought that I had lost you."

Henry turned so that he was on his side, facing me. He lifted my hand to his face, kissing the back of it. With a small smile, he made direct eye contact, shaking his head as he spoke again.

"Can't get rid of me that easy."

His words caused me to laugh a little bit, turning onto my side as well. I pulled his bed so that it was pressed against mine, sorta making it into one. Carefully, I scooted over so that I could rest my head on my husbands chest.

For a while, I simply laid there listening to his heartbeat while Henry traced shapes on my back. His heartbeat was the most wonderful noise I had heard in my life, never wanting it to go away.

Looking up, I caught his eyes, smiling before placing a kiss on his lips. Not too long afterwards, both of our eyes fluttered shut, exchanging a quiet "I love you", "I love you too." Before drifting off to sleep.

After everything that had occurred that night, I was sure that Henry and I could agree on one thing in particular,

We are never landing on an aircraft carrier again.
