Tainted (Levi x Reader)

Chapter 19

You walked along the streets with your squad, trying not to draw attention to yourselves. It wasn't hard—everyone else in Trost was caught up in the excitement of free rations being handed out, courtesy of the king.

Suddenly, a wagon dashed in at full speed and snatched up Jean and Armin, who were acting as decoys for Eren and Krista. You followed via a shortcut. You, Mikasa, and Levi landed unnoticed on the roof of the same building where the captors took them.

"How is your leg? Any better?" Mikasa guiltily asked Levi as the three of you crouched in waiting.

Still watching the building's entrance, he rested a hand on his knee. "I can move well enough. It's not bad. More importantly, these kidnappers... they're nothing but amateurs. Why would they be using guys like this?" He stood up. "You can handle the rest on your own. I'm heading for Eren." Before leaving, he stopped close beside you and reached over to grab your hand, giving it a light squeeze. "You're their senior. Stay with them, make sure things go as planned. Once you've dealt with the trash, come and meet up with me."

You squeezed his hand back as your (e/c) eyes met his darkened gray ones. "I'll take care of it."

Levi reached the edge of the roof and paused, saying over his shoulder, "One more thing. I'll tell you, just in case. Tell Armin and the others, too. From now on, we'll be fighting humans, too, and not just titans."

With that, you slipped into the building with Mikasa and swiftly dispatched the guards. You waited until their accomplices returned, and attacked. Mikasa sprang out from behind one set of crates, you from another. She delivered a powerful blow to one of their faces with her knee, while you swung your leg out to kick one of the other men so hard in the face that you heard his neck snap, and his head rolled to one side unnaturally. Oops.

You and Mikasa fought side by side as if you'd been fighting together for years, taking out the kidnappers. You grabbed one by the arm, twisted it behind his back, and used your momentum to flip the guy neatly over your shoulder, landing your elbow in the center of his back as he screamed in pain on the ground.

Jean and Armin set to work tying each of them up as they lay stunned and beaten.

"Alright. Rendezvous with the Captain, his orders!" you told them, leading the way back outside. Your eyes widened as you heard many distant gunshots ring out in the direction Levi had gone. "Quickly!"

You lead the way toward where the shots had come from, the rest of Levi's squad at your heels. You spotted Levi chasing after the cart that held Eren and Historia at full speed, several enemies hot on his trail. You sharply switched directions to join him.

One of his pursuers raised a gun at Levi, ready to fire. Levi deployed his hook straight through him, and you arrived just in time to finish off the man with a clean side slash from both your swords.

"Chase the wagon!" Levi shouted as the rest of your squad caught up. "Listen up!" he instructed. "They're used to fighting other people! They already got three of ours. If we're going to get those two back, you can't hesitate! If you get the chance, you kill! Got it?!"

"Yes, sir!"

"Armin, Jean! Secure the wagon! We'll cover you!" Levi ordered. As the two obeyed, you and Levi looked back at the few enemies still able to keep up the chase. You attacked in tandem, splitting up by flipping backwards in midair, landing against the buildings on either side of the road, and propelling yourselves toward them with the help of your 3DMG. Levi took out one on the right, you the one on the left, slashing your blades all the way down his back and getting spattered with blood as a result. Levi took care of the last one on his own.
