"Hi, Steve. I've been kinda sick lately. You can probably tell from my voice....Dave and the others came by to see me. I ended up pretending to be asleep. I couldn't face them. I know they're worried about me. Heck, they're worried more about you. About us! But I just wanna be alone, you know?"
She paused.
"Actually I don't want to be alone. I want to be with you, Steve. Please, please get well soon."
