Prompt: I was in class and we were talking about things that make us happy in those mandatory community circles they make us do.
Look around you
Open your eyes
Look at the little things
As your senses take flight
The smell of spring flowers
or of crisp autumn air
of sweet apple pie
or bacon sizzling in the morning light
The birds singing sweetly
of waves rolling on the beach
your mother softly humming
a guitarist's relaxed strumming
the blue, clear, light of day
The dark, starry, moonlit night
The joyful, bright rising sun
The bright colors that only show at dusk
The soft snowflakes in your lashes
the warm shower after long, hard days
the tight embrace someone you love gives
the warmth of a winter fireplace
words of kindness and adoration
The song that always makes you grin
The comforting presence of the one you love most
even those little things can bring you joy
the smell of fresh hot chocolate
or fresh summer citrus
fresh herbs and spices
the perfume your mother wore
The gentle sound from a violin
children laughing as they play
Your cat purring as it's curled up in your lap
the light breeze that's rustling the leaves
The sight of butterflies dancing in the air
The person in the coffee shop sketching on paper
A child excitedly pulling a parent's hand
someone randomly dancing in the street
The relief of taking your shoes off when you get home
A soft kiss from the one you love most
The warmth that comes when you adore someone
and the feeling of holding their hand
decorating cookies for winter holidays
those moments some says they like your hair
dancing in your room when no one is watching
your parents homemade meals after you've been away.
Words of kindness and adoration
that song that always makes you grin
the comforting presence of the one you love most
even those littlest things can bring you joy.
