I woke up in the morning to sunlight coming in through the window. I sat up and stretched, yawning. I looked over to where I saw Stacy sleeping. She was curled up in a ball, her knees up to her chest. She seemed to be sleeping peacefully but looked alert at the same time. I stood up and walked to my closet to get my clothes. Today was Friday and at our school, we could wear whatever we wanted to on Fridays as long as it followed the dress code. I chose a black turtleneck long sleeved T-Shirt, ripped jeans and a light grey beanie. I got dressed in the bathroom and fixed my hair. I came out to wake Stacy up to see she was already awake and had dressed.
"I found some clothes from last year." She informed me. "They're smaller, but they'll do for now. I also borrowed one of your hats. They still have the rule, right?"
I nodded. She was wearing a black long sleeved T-Shirt with camo pants. She had folded the sleeves up to her elbows. She had found one of my hats. It was a black hat with the letters SA sewn in white.
"Nice outfit." I said. "Just don't get my hat dirty, okay? I like that hat."
"Sure, I won't get a single speck of dirt on it."
I nodded and smiled at her as she left the room and went down the stairs. I followed her down into the kitchen. Stacy was talking to Reina in some foreign language and they seemed to be talking about important things by their tone. Mom was in the kitchen making breakfast. The options were either cereal, a smoothie, or bacon and eggs with waffles. I chose bacon and eggs with waffles then poured myself a glass of orange juice and sat down. Mom served me a plate and I thanked her. Stacy and Reina continued talking in their language. Mom ended up being the one to ask about it.
"I didn't know you two spoke a different language." She asked as I took a bite of my eggs. They stopped talking and looked at eachother. She seemed oddly relieved.
"We learned it a while ago.." Stacy explained nervously.
"Yeah." Reina agreed. Mom raised her eyebrow questioningly. I had finished my eggs and bacon and had started on the waffles.
"Together? When? And I didn't know you two knew each other before."
"Uhm.." They looked at me nervously, asking for help. I looked at the clock and acted like we were going to be late.
"Oh wow, look at the time." I got up and put my plate in the sink. "Thanks, mom."
"Right, we're gonna be late." Reina and Stacy grabbed their bags and started to head out. We were actually almost an entire hour early.
"Wait, you two didn't eat anything?" Mom asked as she turned to face them. I grabbed my bag and waited.
"We'll get something on the way, don't worry." And with that, we left.
"Bye!" We all called as we left the house. We all got in the car and I started it.
"So where do you guys want to stop before school?" I asked. I backed out of the driveway and looked at the two in the mirror. They were looking at each other and smiling.
"Aunt Jennie's?" They asked each other and smiled even more before turning back at me. I probably had the most confused look on my face. I had no idea what Aunt Jennie's was.
"Let's go to Aunt Jennie's." Stacy replied to my question.
"And, where is that exactly?" I questioned.
"Take the next left, then go straight for two streets." Reina directed. I followed her instructions until the last street. "Take another left here and then go right."
I did as she said and soon enough, there was a sign with the words, Welcome to Aunt Jennie's café Diner, in an old fashion colour palette. It seems pretty normal so far.. I parked in the parking lot which was in front of the building. We all got out of the car and went inside. When Stacy and Reina got inside they were immediately greeted by a woman who I assumed was the owner of the diner.
