Evan walked up to the principal's office for the conversation that he had been dreading all week. Zoe and him got a bit closer, or well, Evan's stopped being shocked when she comes up and insults him about breaking his arm or whatever. It made him consider how much Jared changed throughout the Connor Project. Jared wouldn't dare to insult Evan anymore, mostly because he was scared at being yelled at again or something.
Oh well. Speaking of Jared. Principal's office. Right.
Evan took a shaky breath before opening the door, seeing the last two people he was expecting.
Heidi and Cynthia.
Heidi. And Cynthia. Were Jared's moms in this timeline.
Again, Heidi.
And Cynthia.
"Well geez, fuck you too, universe," Connor mumbled.
This probably should've been self-explanatory.
"Yeah, but still."
Cynthia and Heidi just stared at him. It was a bit creepy, almost like they were shocked or something. Evan drew the conclusion that Jared died with the letter on him, and were shocked that-
Wait wait wait. Heidi wasn't his mom anymore. Heidi didn't know that Evan was friends with Jared. Well, he wasn't friends with this Jared...
Why was the world so confusing?
"I- I'm sorry, they said on the loudspeaker for me to come to the office?" Evan stated, knowing damn well what was about to happen.
And maybe he still wasn't prepared for it.
"The principal, Mrs. Sawyer? She uh. She stepped out," Cynthia said, surprising Evan a little.
But then Evan had to register the fact that Cynthia might still have the parent role, but that doesn't mean she had the sob story one. Heidi- goddamnit, why did she have to be the one who tries in every timeline?
Evan couldn't help but feel a bit of guilt. "Oh."
"We wanted to uh, to speak to you in private. If you'd like to maybe..." Cynthia gestured to the chair in front of the moms, so Evan hesitantly sat down. "We're uh... we're Jared's parents."
That still surprised him. Just, the fact that it slipped off of the tongue so easily. Jared's parents.
Evan took a deep breath. "Oh."
Cynthia sighed a little. "Why don't you go ahead, honey, and.."
"I'm going as fast as I can," Heidi replied, her voice filled with pain.
That hurt.
That hurt like hell.
The fact that Evan couldn't try to help her. The fact that Evan couldn't act like he knew her since birth. The fact that Evan couldn't hug her and tell her that it'll be okay. The fact that she couldn't do the same to him.
It hurt.
"That's not what I said, is it?" Cynthia asked, making Evan instantly angry at her. Because goddamnit, let Heidi take her time.
There was a long pause before Heidi managed to take out the letter, her hand practically shaking as she did. "This is- Jared, he wanted you to have this."
Evan took the note, opening it to see the typed out page. However, there was something scribbled, something handwritten near the bottom, catching Evan's attention. What would this Jared write on the paper, anyways?
