What if some of the characters had pets?

Light: I think he would have a poodle. They are known for their intelligence and I'm sure Light would love to have an intelligent dog that he can teach to do various things. I imagine that Light would have a black male poodle named Ami or Beau.

Misa: She would probably have a small dog, something she can easily take with her to her photo shoots and such. She would probably spring for a pretty dog rather than a smart dog. I can definitely see her with a Pomeranian or a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. If it's a male, she would probably name it Light. If female, then probably something cute like Missy or Princess.

L: I can see him with a cat. Maybe more than one cat, but at least two cats. I can't see him wanting his cats to have kittens with each other, so he would probably either have cats of the same sex or have Watari take his cats to the vet to get fixed. I can see him having a male and a female. Maybe named Aristotle and Cleopatra. Named after incredibly intelligent figures in history.

Matsuda: He would definitely get a Golden Retriever. Something that would be able to match his level of energy and is very intelligent. He would probably have a female Golden named something like Misty or Luna. He would absolutely adore her, love of his life practically. He might also get another pet to keep her company when he's away at work.

Near: I can't see Near with a dog or a cat or any sort of usual pet. He'd more likely have a snake or a ferret. I can see him with a white ferret. I think Near would like the name Blondie for a female ferret and Winter for a male. As for snakes, I can see him having a non-venomous white snake. Maybe Hera for a female and Pluto for a male.

Mello: I can only see him with a cat. I can absolutely only see him with a female Russian Blue named after a tough woman from mythology like Athena, Ishtar, or Atalanta. He would absolutely adore her. He would hold her whenever he's home, make her food himself, and treat her like a queen. This would've happened if Mello hadn't died and you can't change my mind.

Matt: I can see him having a mouse or a cat. Something he can carry around and doesn't need a whole lot attention. Something he could chill with. Male or female would work for him, he would just go for something with a chill personality. If he got a mouse, maybe named Minnie if female or Mickey if male. By the way, I'm pretty sure Matt is a HUGE Disney fan. You can't change my mind on that. Like my Mello with his little kitty queen headcanon, Matt being the biggest Disney fan to ever live is the hill I will die on. Anyways, if he got a cat, he would probably name it Duchess or Nala if female. Simba or Apple if male.
