Pretty much the same reason as Steve

He wishes he could be as tough as dally but he doesn't really want people to be "scared" of him. He wants to remain approachable but doesn't want anyone to mess with him

Darry has a family (or brothers at least) and Darry isn't as mean as him but it's too late into him being a dick face to back out of it now
