The Curse of the crown

Chapter 1

"I'm going for a run" Audelia shouted
"No your not" The orphanage manager, Diana, shouted back
"I'll be back in time for the choosing I swear" Audelia shouted back exasperated
"You better be because i swear to you young lady that if your not I will hunt you down and drag y-"Diana started, until the door was slammed cutting off her threat.

That stupid ceremony it's not like I ever showed any sign of being a werewolf or a vampire or even a low class mage! So what the point in going to the stupid ceremony, it's only going to give Athena another reason to mock me when I touch the Amulet and nothing happens. Just thinking about it makes me embarrassed! Your probably what this so called 'choosing ceremony' is about anyway. It's always said that it's the turning point in our lives. Firstly you have to touch an amulet then there is the case of dragon riders, they are known to be the most powerful and usually are all found in the central city, if you are deemed a dragon rider a dragon egg will appear over your head and you will go straight to the central city. If nothing appears over your head you are a mage they then go to the city of enchantment. If you are deemed a Mage or a Dragon rider you will want to know what level of magic you have therefore when you arrive at the central city or the city of enchantment you are then required to touch another amulet which will determine what your level of magic is. There are five levels each more powerful than the last grey, blue, red, silver and lastly gold but a gold hasn't been uncovered in centuries, so no one is hoping for it anymore. Silver is also extremely rare, we're lucky to even have one every year.

I hadn't even noticed I'd ran into the forest until I almost got a face full of dirt when I tripped over a fallen branch obscuring my path. 
"seriously" I groaned, "Where the hell even am I!"
I let my gaze fall over the tall trees and overgrown bushes trying to find any evidence of the path I was previously on, as my gaze hovered over the ground trying to find any evidence of footprints that i could possibly follow I sensed something watching me. Slowly raising my head I peered through the small gaps in between the bark of the tall trees, suddenly i whipped my head to the side sensing movement. Unconsciously my hand travelled down to my thigh where my dagger should have been strapped,
"Shit" I cursed, "just when I needed it" I groaned
I felt my breathing slowly pick up and the adrenaline suddenly being released to my blood stream and flowing through my veins. Getting control of my breathing i honed in on my senses and carefully bent down down to retrieve a stick from the ground and slowly creeped forward to where i thought the culprit was. 
"Who's there, If this is some sort of prank I will kill anyone who has even been made aware of your little joke"
Suddenly I heard a growl behind me and my Fight or Flight instinct kicked in, I would've loved to fight but I was no where near equipped in my shorts, sports bra and little vest top and was not even equipped with my dagger. Therefore I ran, mulling over the best place to run i missed the noise of heavy breathes behind me, I just decided to let my body take control of where we ran and listen closely. While I couldn't hear any footsteps I could still hear heavy breathing close behind me, so I decided to keep running, knowing better than to stop giving my purser the upper hand. 
It was only when I focused on where I was running that I realized we were about 100 meters away from the choosing ceremony, I was just going to let the monster be handled by the dragon riders when I remembered all the innocent people that would be hurt by the monster first. Heaving a big sigh I slowed down a bit ready to spin round and face my pursuer, I spun round taking in the size of the monster that stood in front of me still running not aware of me stopping yet. Knowing I needed high ground I grabbed the tree to my right and started climbing it, I chanced a look at the gigantic monster on my trail and started climbing faster knowing I needed to be as high as possible,
"All I wanted to do was go for a run" I muttered, slowly getting control of my breathing I went over my plan in my head and centered all my attention to the monster on 25 meters away from me. Just as I anticipated he carried on running forward giving me the opportunity to jump and land on his shoulders, lifting my head up quickly I just avoided him slamming his head back into me. Tightening my grip on the branch I raised it up above my head and grabbed onto one of the monsters horns and putting as much force as I could behind it I brought it right through the monsters head.
"Watch out!" I screamed to the few people who were a bit too close to avoid the falling monster.
As everyone quickly turned around and acknowledged the big monster everyone scrambled out of the way to avoid getting squished. Grabbing through both the monsters horns tightly I shut my eyes tightly waiting for the impact, when the monster hit the ground I immediately flung my eyes open and got of the head and looked down at myself covered in blood and got ready to run not wanting to get questioned by anyone, especially not the dragon riders. Spinning round on my heel I nodded at the people closest to me and started walking away about to break into a run when i heard a shout
"Hey! where do you think your going" Someone questioned, slowly spinning round i acknowledged the voice, immediately recognizing a dragon rider as my questioner
"Just what I didn't need" I muttered, raising my voice and shrugging i replied "back.."
"Considering what we just saw I don't think your going anywhere young lady" Another person added joining the man who was originally questioning me
"seriously two of them" I sighed
"How old are you anyway?" The man added
"I- Um..19" I replied
"Please I know that's a lie, you have to be younger than 19, there is no chance that you have gone through the choosing ceremony and not be declared a mage or a dragon rider" The woman countered
"She's lying, she's 18 just like us, she should've touched the amulet today she just scared because she knows she's just going to be a human" A girl called Athena shouted out
"Bitch!" I shouted back, she just smirked at me
"So your Audelia-" The girl started 
"So your the one who messed up our schedule-" The man also replied at the same time, the girl scolded the man
"So your Audelia Adler" I nodded, "Well since your here you might as well touch the amulet" The girl insisted
"I really don't think that's necessary-"
"Just touch the amulet girl" The man scolded
"Alright chill, Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning" I retorted
"You little-"The man started until he let out a groan of pain and directed a dark glare to the girl next to him
"I'm Valentina and this is Darius" The girl I now know as Valentina offered, I nodded and started walking towards the stage
"Speed it up girl we have a tight schedule" Darius chided, at that he got two dark glares sent his way,
slowly I stood in front of the amulet and looked up at the two dragon riders, I begun to drop my hand and tried once again to not have to go through with this "Nothings going to happen this really isn't-"
"Touch the bloody amulet child" Darius shouted
Not wanting to get scolded anymore I raised my hand above the amulet and slowly lowered it, "Now, touch it Now!" Darius scolded, receiving an elbow in the side, I gave him a dark glare and dropped my hand on the amulet
"Happy now?" I shouted at him, no glow emitting from the amulet or anything else i was about to raise my hand and leave not wanting to pro-long my embarrassment when a bright light suddenly emitted from the amulet i was touching and suddenly the glow seemed to get brighter, i looked around trying to find where the new glow was coming from. I noticed that through the glow Darius and Valentina were looking at something above my head, slowly I raised my head and saw the dragon egg hovering just above my head. Shielding my eyes I looked down at the amulet i looked down and realized that there was no colour it was just a white glow, normally the glow of the amulet indicates what sort of magic you have, my eyes started to hurt as i looked around frantically. Removing my hand from the amulet I watched as the light suddenly stopped like i flicked a switch.
"what was that" I practically screamed, Darius whipped his head to me and then to Valentina
"Is it her" Darius whispered not expecting me to hear him
"What do you mean Is it her, tell me what just happened"
"I don't know, that's not supposed to happen" Darius shouted back at me
Suddenly Valentina joined in on our conversation "well I think its time for us and the other dragon riders to go to the central city"
"Us! What do you mean us?" I questioned
"Well a dragon rider egg appeared above your head-" Valentina started
"So you are a dragon rider" Darius finished
