How It Started

Bella POV

"I remember looking up to look up to him."

I was playing my guitar and singing. Music was my favorite thing, an escape from reality something the Cullen's didn't know, not even Alice with her visions. I was in my room in the Cullen's house singing and playing my instruments. These walls are thick, there's no way they can hear this. Can they?

"And I remember most the time he wasn't there."

I always thought this song described me life.

"I'd be waiting at the door when he got home at night. He'd pass me by to go pass out in his chair."

Did I mention Charlie was a drunk? I continued singing, not giving a care in the world, I was letting loose, feeling free.

Edward POV

The family and I, aside from Bella, who was in her room doing God knows what, sat in the living room, with the tv on low, not paying attention to it. We all decided to relax for a little while, yes, were vampires, and vampires don't get tired. But that doesn't mean we can't pretend does it?

Carlisle and Esme sat on the love seat, Esme laying in Carlisle's lap, as he rubbed her back. Emmett lay on the floor on his back with Rosalie on his stomach, while he played with a strand of her hair, Alice and Jasper on the couch cuddling, swapping butterfly kisses, and me, well me, I'm sitting at my piano as usual compossing a new song.

While I was testing out my new song, I heard the faint sound of a guitar, and a very angelic like voice, and I stopped playing. Hmm, Bella must have her radio on again.

"And I'd say, walk a little straighter, daddy. You're swaying side to side."

That doesn't sound like a radio now that I really listen. The family stopped their movements, and sat stone still. Not a muscle was moved, not a word was spoken.

"Your footsteps make me dizzy and no matter how I try, I keep trippin' and stumblin', if you'd look down here you'd see, walk a little straighter, daddy, you're leading me."

The family turned to me with questioning glances. I shrugged and gestured for everybody to follow me. Everyone stood up in one fluid motion, and were quietly making their way up the stairs. As we made it up the stairs Bella's bedroom door was ajar, allowing all of us a chance you peek in and see what was going on. What we saw shocked us.

Bella POV

"...If you'd look down here you'd see, walk a little straighter, daddy, you're leading me."

And the tears were released. I bit back a strangled sob, trying not to alarm the family, that probably has more important things to do, than hear me cry about my petty life, involving my abusive drunken father. Yup, abusive and drunk. Renee was the same way. I thought that maybe if I moved from Arizona to Washigton and lived with my father, thing would be better. I of course, was wrong, things got worse. I layed my guitar back in its case and hid it under my bed. I sat on the bed bringing my knees to my chest, and laying down, stiffling sobs by bitting the sleeve of my 'Ohio State' sweatshirt.

Edward POV

Rosalie: "I never really liked the human, but seeing her broken and hurt, makes me want to think twice about how I feel about her. Yup, she's something speical, I will forever protect my baby sister. Wait, baby sister? Where'd that come from? Oh no, the human's making me soft and gummy!"

Jasper: "Her emotions are off the scale. She feels worthless (she's definitely not), embarrassed (but why?), ashamed (what does she have to feel ashamed about?), and broken (you certainly are not broken, if you feel it, then we'll fix it). Bella and I have became closer, and I'm gonna do my darnest to make her feel worth the pain."

Esme: "She can sing. Wow. My poor baby girl, she's been through so much. I just want to hold her forever and take away her pain, and vulnerability."

Alice: "My new baby sister, I never knew she has been through so much. And she can sing and play guitar, how did my visions not see this!? Just wait, I'll drag her out of this house to go shopping, lots and lots of shopping!"

Emmett: "Stupid animal hurt my baby sister. It wouldn't surprise me any if I were to go over there now, shred him to pieces, hide his body parts in the woods, and see a report of his death in the Forks Newspaper next week!"

Carlisle: "My youngest daughter has the voice, and instumental talent of an angel. Amazing. I know my daughters past, and I am her father now, not that retched man -scratch that- monster's! I need to hold my little girl, and let her know everything is going to be okay. I'll bring her to bed with Esme and I later, after she naps, and she eats dinner. I'm going to make her feel safe! That's a father's job anyway, and I'm going to fullfill that duty!"

Wow, I thought, Bella made Rosalie soft. Nice! Carlisle, I know him to well, he will deffinitely stick with what he said. And everybody else, wow, Bella has no idea how much she means to all of us.
