Esme POV
Carlisle and I lay on Bella's bed still cuddled up to her. It's been a little over five hours since her breakdown, and her exhaustion wore her out. We haven't moved from our spots since. We may be vampire parents, that act like we have no worries, but we do. One of our worries is someday we're gonna go check on youngest daughter, and she won't be there. Carlisle has taken off work for the next year, and I have put everything aside, and pulled Bella out of school, so the three of us could have the time together we desperately need.
Carlisle POV
Bella tossed in her sleep, grabbing a fist full of my shirt, and buried her head in my chest. It's still amazing how she can tell who is laying next to her when she sleeps. She preceded to whimper, and mumble in her sleep. "Mmmm.... Please, no, no." Bella moaned in her sleep like she was in pain, and proceeded to make her words more coherent. "I'll do it.... Mhh sorry." Tears began trailing down her face. "Please. No belt. I'll-I'll do it. I'll do it!" She began screaming in her sleep.
Bella clawed another fist full of my shirt in her hands, trying to bury deeper into my chest. I had one arm under her, holding her at the waist, and the other over her, petting her hair. This always seemed to calm her. I began humming an old tune I learned when I was a child over three hundred years ago. 'Lavender's Blue.'
Lavender's Blue, dilly, dilly, lavender's green, when I am king, dilly dilly, you shall be queen.
Who told you so, dilly, dilly, who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly, dilly, that told me so.
Call up your men, dilly, dilly, set them to work, some to plow, dilly, dilly, some to the fork, some to make hay, dilly, dilly, some to cut corn, while you and I, dilly, dilly, keep ourselves warm.
Lavender's green, dilly, dilly, lavender's blue, if you love me, dilly, dilly, I will love you.
Let the birds sing, dilly, dilly, and the lambs play; we shall be safe, dilly, dilly, out of harm's way.
I love to dance, dilly, dilly, I love to sing; when I am queen, dilly, dilly, you'll be my king.
Who told me so, dilly, dilly, who told me so?
I told myself, dilly, dilly, I told me so.
"My favorite nursery rhyme." I heard a small mumble from Bella. She must have woke up from my singing. "You have quite a good voice." She said smiling up at me. "Well thank you, I learned this song decades ago, when I was a child, and it always soothed me to sleep, or when I was scared." I spoke in a soothing voice, smiling at my beautiful daughter. The baby of the family.
Bella POV
I was having a nightmare when I heard an old song, my mother used to sing to me, before she died. 'Lavender's Blue.' Such a good song. I loved it, and used to sing it with her. I opened my eyes a crack, and saw dad singing it to me. He must have learned it at some very young age, and he has such a lovely voice. I never knew he could sing. I may show him my songbook at some point, and wait on the others to see it. I'll try to get him to sing with me as well at some point.
I began to hum the song unconsciously, snuggling closer to my father figure. He proceeded to pet my hair, and hummed along with me. I then heard a more feminine, shrill voice begin humming with us. Mom is laying in her as well. She can sing too... "Man, you guys have some nice voices." They both smiled down at me, and kissed my forehead, squishing me between them, holding me close, like they're afraid I'll vanish out of thin air. The last thing I heard was mom's voice, "You do too, sweetie. We love you." I mumbled a 'love you too, mom and dad.' And I was out like a light.
