Chapter 31

Lucy's POV

It was already late when we arrived back at spinners end. When we entered, Severus just greeted the two of us with a nod and headed to his room. I knew it would be hard on both him and I to be distant with each other for a while, but I knew he had to do this to keep his emotions in check.

After taking a shower, Jennie and I got changed for the night and went to bed. Because my bed was queen sized we could share it.

The next two weeks we spent either at the lake or in muggle cities going shopping. They didn't know who we were, so we would be safe. And it made me remember the good old days where we went Christmas shopping together and everything was still fine in the world.

Today would be my branding, I was really nervous about it but Jennie promised she would come with me and comfort me after. Severus would also come. He was waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs, saying his first sentence in two weeks to us. "The dark lord is waiting, let's go."

We apparated to Malfoy Manor and when we walked in, Draco was walking down the stairs and looked horrible. He was just skin and bones at this point and pale as a ghost. I understood that with Voldemort living in your home it must be difficult to be happy in any way.

The dark lord was already waiting for us in the dimly lit dining room.

"Severus, Lucy. Good to see you both. The initiation will begin shortly." He spoke and stood up from his seat.

"Lucy has proven herself to be worthy of the position as a death eater in my ranks. She possesses great strength and did not back down when asked to kill. Now is the time you will have the honour to be branded by me." He walked towards me and I bowed "My lord."

He took my hand in his. It was as cold as ice.

He raised my hand in the air and spoke "This girl will provide an immense amount value to us, she can tame dragons which will be especially useful in our upcoming battle."

Everyone who was in the room began to clap. Many familiar death eaters were stood all around us and Jennie was also allowed in, although only I would be branded today. I knew Voldemort liked the idea of a beast such as a dragon to fight on his side.

"Now then, let us not waste any more time and let the ceremony begin." He pulled out his wand.

I pulled up my sleeve from my left arm and held it out in front of him. He placed his wand onto the area and spoke "Do you hereby swear your loyalty to serve me."

"I swear my full allegiance to you my lord." I replied and tried my hardest to stay in a numb state of mind.

The dark mark was then imprinted into my skin. It didn't hurt too much, only burned a little. At first it was subtle, but then the black ink emerged and there was a skull with a snake that looked exactly like the one my father and Draco had.

"Everyone out of the room now, I will have a short meeting with her alone and then with Severus after." The dark lord commanded everyone to leave and they did.

He sat down at the head of the table and I took the seat next to his on the right.

"I am aware that you have recently executed the betrayal of Potter, correct?" He opened our discussion.

"Yes my lord, he was present at the execution of Dumbledore and saw me leaving with everyone. He seemed really quite upset."

"Good." Voldemort looked pleased. "I am hoping this will crush his spirits enough to make him lose the ability to trust others. His strongest asset is the numbers that are willing to protect him, but now his own family betrayed him."

I don't think I really saw Harry as family, he was a best friend to me but my only family is Severus. I think Harry feels the same, he has Sirius who is a lot more like family to him than I am. I was hoping maybe one day him and I could get closer like brother and sister, but now that I lost his trust I am sure that would never happen.

"But I still have something planned for you concerning him." Voldemort continued. "Knowing the way Gryffindors always want to play hero, I command you to seek him out in a few months and try to win his trust back. Say Severus had forced you to be part of our ranks, but you ran away. Then I will come in, we will find a way to make it seem like you are being held captive. Surely he will try and come for the rescue, but we will all be ready and then finally kill the boy who lived." A grim smile spread on his lips.

Why.

Why did I have to betray him once again.
