That afternoon I walked home, all alone.
The chilly 4 o'clock evening breeze brushed against my rosey tear stained cheeks. I wrapped my arms around my torso, imagining AJ was hugging me from behind.
I couldn't help but let a smile curl along my sad lips as the thought of AJ being happy came to mind.
He's happier with her...
I continued to tell myself.
I pressed my palms against my forehead as an aching headache began to throb.
" Ugh... "
I mumbled out of pain.
" Hey... You okay? "
I flinched to the sound of an unfamiliar voice approaching me. I lowered my head not daring to look up at this person.
They had rainbow checkered Vans with navy jeans.
" I don't mean any harm... I just saw you staggering and was wondering if you needed help. "
" I- I fi- "
I paused before letting the false claims of being fine left my dry mouth.
Finally, the feeling of betrayal kicked in at the worst time possible. My heart began to race and tears suddenly formed in my eyes.
I couldn't hold it back anymore... I couldn't put up an act full of energy and jokes anymore...
" No... NO... I'm not fine... "
I shouted, my tears were streaming down my cheeks, my voice became crackly and full of sorrow. I fell to the ground, letting the chill from the pavement rest on my legs.
" Woah, hey hey- Whats wrong?! "
They asked squatting down next to me unsure of what to do.
They reached a hand out to pat my shoulder but I couldn't help but only see the haunting memory AJ's hand reaching out for me.
With pure anger, I slapped their hand away with an obvious flinch before silence flooded the air around us as we both sat shocked and confused.
" I- I didn't mean to swat you- "
" Did they hurt you..? "
" Th- what? "
" Did they hurt you? "
We both fell silent once again. I didn't even try to resist the awkward atmosphere that sunk under our skins.
" ... You deserve better... Don't let anyone belittle you. Your bigger and better than that. "
This guy said before standing up.
I looked down to my empty palms that rested so anxiously on my lap as tears continued to trail down my red cheeks.
" Ha... I doubt that... But I- "
" Here, take my hand. "
I froze, his voice became so deep and serious, maybe a hint of sorrow as well. I slowly raised my head to meet his shiney silver eyes that gleamed in the sunset light. He held his hand out for me to take.
" I... I can't... "
" You can, you just refuse to let people see that side of you. You refuse to give into your emotions... "
He paused with a small sigh, letting me speak up,
" I don't talk to strangers... "
I mumble, struggling to scramble up to my feet, so defeatedly sat back down.
" I'm Keith, Keith James hills. I'm 16, in grade 10. I go to Appa Public High and I have a sibling, her name is Amber. I have short, ruffled, and messy cinnamon brown hair. I have black skin and white teeth. I prefer books over movies, but movies are still good. I love reading, drinking tea, I'm personally more of a dog person than cat, my favorite colour is red and I'm a pretty outgoing kinda guy. Even though I'd rather be home reading, I seriously enjoy meeting new people, making people laugh and chilling with friends. "
