44. Gone Again

Mia's POV.

I sat on my bed, hugging my knees tightly and staying quiet while Ruby texted Michael.

"Okay, what's wrong?" She put her phone down and faced me.

"What?"

"You've been like that for an hour now. What happened?"

I sighed and sat up straighter. "I got back together with Calum a few days ago."

"What?" Ruby's eyes widened.

"Yeah, I know."

"But he was being a complete-"

"I know. He just-I don't know."

Ruby sighed. "You never know, Mia."

I shrugged.

"So...what's the real reason?" She frowned.

"Luke saw us kissing and he thought I was using him." I mumbled.

"What?" She yelled.

"Yeah."

"Well...were you?"

I stared at her in horror. "No! And I don't know what to do anymore. I should never have kissed him, I should never have come here. Then everything wouldn't be so messed up."

Ruby shrugged. "Where is he now?"

"I don't know. We haven't spoken in two days."

"Wow." She mumbled.

"Yeah."

The next day at school, I sat with Ruby and Michael at lunch, staying silent while Ruby told Michael everything.

"I know." He frowned.

"You know?"

"Yeah. Luke told me. But Mia...were you using him?" Michael asked, looking at me.

"For the last time, no!" I groaned. "I would never do that to him."

"He's pretty upset." He sighed. "He started smoking again, and I'm pretty sure he's drank a lot at a couple of parties we went to."

I looked down at my hands. "I never meant to hurt him. I wasn't using him, honest."

Michael bit his lower lip and shrugged. Ruby sighed. "What do we do? And I haven't seen Ashton in ages. Where is he?"

"Ashton's been with Luke these past few days." Michael replied. "He's trying to help him but he's a fucking mess."

I frowned. "I didn't know he liked me. And if he told me, I wouldn't have got back together with Calum. I like Luke too."

Ruby looked at me. "Then tell him. Maybe he'll feel better."

"Er, it's not that easy." Michael cut in. "He's terrible. Trust me. He may live with you right now, but he would do anything to see your face again. Sure, he kind of hates you but he also feels like it's his fault. He told me he thought he wasn't good enough for you.That you deserved Calum and all this time he was just jealous. So even if you did tell him, he'd still feel like shit."

I bit my lip. "I-I didn't know he felt like that. That's terrible." I shook my head. "This is all my fault. I'm so stupid."

"He isn't coming to school either." Michael sighed.

"Really?" I frowned. "I was wondering why he wasn't there. I just thought that he went to school before me. Where is he?"

"I don't know. I've texted Ashton about a million times but he hasn't answered, or read my messages. I know he never turns his phone off, so maybe Luke told him not to say."

I buried my face in my hands. "I'm so fucking stupid. I never should have hurt him."

"Too right." Ruby agreed.
