Before we begin I just need to establish a few things about the reader and her past to make my writing a little easier when I get into the canonical plot of the show. Treat this as a prologue :))
You try to grasp the memories of your home, your mothers, and your village as you are dragged away into the night. A soldier clad in cold, metal armor with an insignia you didn't recognize is holding you as you thrash, screaming and crying. Your third birthday party was two nights ago and you had been playing with your gifts. Even at your age, you know your mothers aren't coming to get you and you would never see those toys again. A few hours later, the sun had risen and you arrive at an entire place that matched the feeling of the soldier's armor. You were handcuffed to restrain your incredible tantrum but you weren't crying anymore; you ran out of energy after 30 minutes and had fallen asleep on the soldier's uncomfortable armor.
You were finally roused when you were being handed off to a woman with a rather dark aura. You clung to the soldier, not wanting to be touched by the scary lady but you lacked the necessary strength to stay with them. As soon as you felt your weight in her hands, you felt light with a fluttery feeling. The woman's eyes softened and then became infected with intrigue. After receiving a folder from the soldier, she whisked you to a chamber, removed your handcuffs and you were finally put down seemingly for the first time all day into a chair.
To your shock, her shadow snakes up the metal leg of the chair, up the back, around your shoulder, and it finally made contact with your sternum. The woman closed her eyes and the fluttery feeling returned to your chest. You could feel your blood flowing, feel yourself getting stronger despite your incredibly young age, and your heart raced until suddenly, it all stopped. You found yourself being scooped up in a daze, wondering if that lady was responsible for what you felt and wondering if you could ever find that strength again. You enter another room, this one much larger and somehow more cold and uninviting than the rest of the place. The more you think about the power you felt, the more tired you feel and you find yourself resting your head on the woman's shoulder. You can only make out a few words before you pass out: "She's powerful..." the woman holding you says.
"She's a threat!" a male voice booms.
"I could train her, help her with these things," the woman pleads.
"have you disabled it?"
"yes,""good."
"but it won't last, one day this power will resurface; what will you do then"
"IT DOESNT MATTER. GET OUT."
Now you are awake, tears in your eyes once more as you cling to the lady you once found scary. After some walking, she brings you to a room full of bunk beds. A group of older kids huddle around the two of you and you try to hide in the folds of the woman's cloak. Suddenly, she isn't as forgiving and drags you out by the nightshirt you had been wearing the entire chaotic morning. She addresses the group: "Everyone, this is the newest member of your squadron," she pulls out a folder from the folds of her cloak and reads, "her name is (Y/N), she is from the village of Lyra, and is three years old.
A girl with dark, unkempt fur speaks up, "but Shadow Weaver, why isn't she with other people her ag-"
"Silence Catra." the lady interrupts with her command and you remember again why you thought she was scary, "do not question my orders. You will find that she will have the strength to keep up with you older kids soon enough. Now, get her some clothes and find her a bed. Don't forget your training at noon today," she lectured and then finally left the room leaving you exposed to the eyes of the rest of the group.
A dirty blonde boy sheepishly hands you some clothes: "they're the smallest size I could find but it looks like they'll still be big on you." He offers you a small smile and you raise your eyes to smile back.
The girl the woman had called Catra pointed to a bed in the corner of the room: "only big kids get top bunks" and makes a face, joining a blonde girl with her hair in a ponytail.
Your hands shake as you change into your Horde uniform and when you finish, you collapse onto your hard mattress in quiet tears. After a few hours, you had fallen asleep again and dreamed about your birthday party and the unicorn stuffed animal you had received. You two were going to be best friends. The unicorn was quickly consumed by black and dissolved into the shadows. You awoke with a start, checking every dark place for a shadow that resembled your unicorn bestie with tears once again spilling from your eyes. On the bunk bed next to yours were Catra and that blonde girl, staring at you with inquisitive eyes. The blonde girl slowly approaches you, Catra right behind her, and sticks out her hand: "Hi (Y/N)! I'm Adora! Why are you crying? There's no reason to cry in the Fright Zone! Don't worry; Catra and I were your age when we got here too! It gets better." she chirps. Wordlessly and with wide eyes, you stretch your arm out to meet her hand.
"Uhhh Adora?" Catra asks, "Do you she's deaf?"
You are about to indignantly shake your head when the three other kids bust open the door carrying gray blocks. Adora and Catra grab one for each of them and one for you. "C'mon we need to eat before our first ever training session!" Adora exclaims.
Catra nods with her in excitement, "it's the first step in our grand master plan to take over Etheria!" You look down, clearly not understanding the concepts of their dreams, and gingerly sniff the ration bar. When you smell literally nothing, you take a bite, letting the flavors mix in your mouth and immediately missing your third birthday cake from two days ago.
After you finish, Adora grabs your right hand and says, "If I can protect Catra from Shadow Weaver, I can protect you too! Besides, you're basically a baby who apparently can't talk; I wonder why you're training with us," she muses. Catra takes your left hand and you all head down the corridor into your first ever training session with Shadow Weaver. More than anything, it was fun: a few games to trick the group into some light exercise. Adora and Catra babble about their plans of conquest and how they can play your moms. At that thought, you vow to remember your real moms and to never stop trying to return to your village, even if you had no idea where it was
That night you have nightmares about things hiding in the shadows and an attack on your home. You look at the bed next to you: Catra on the bottom bunk, Adora on top. You think you can even see two faces etched onto the side of the bottom bunk. Suddenly, you see Catra shoot up to a sitting position, gasping. You quickly and quietly make your way across the floor and sit on her bed. You can feel her eye contact through the thick darkness as you whisper your first coherent words all day to comfort your new friend the only way you knew how: "Do you need a hug?" The feline responds by wrapping her arms around your small form. Hearing you speak, Adora descends from the top bunk and joins the hug.
The three of you lay down, comforting each other with your presence. Adora whispers, "we can talk about everything in the morning" and you all fall asleep in each others' arms.A/N: Thank you for reading! Please comment your feedback; I would love to know how I could improve this story! I will be using she/her pronouns for the reader so I'm sorry if you aren't comfortable with those. For clarity, I'm going to keep the A/Ns in bold so if you see bold anywhere that's me talking :D I'll get the next chapter out soon (within a week hopefully)!!!
