It was dark and quiet. The only light being that from the moon, and the only sound being his heavy breathing from the horrors that interrupted his dreams and turned them into nightmares.
Though he was almost somehow used to it. He still woke up screaming, and sweating, and panting. But now he felt as if he had nothing left of himself to give up to fear. He was hollow, empty. His heart had been shattered, too many pieces for any one person to pick up by themselves. He hadn't been able to even cry. It took up too much energy that he didn't have.
Maybe Jimin would've been able to help him.
After 3 years, he could finally admit to himself that Jimin was never coming back though. 3 years of therapists he had fired, 3 years of screaming at Jungkook when he was only trying to help.
He was no better off than 3 years ago. He just didn't have the energy or heart to be anything other than 'okay'. He still couldn't speak his name. His thoughts were the only place he dared, because he broke down in his mind enough that it didn't make a difference.
When Jungkook asked how he was, he responded, "I'm okay. I'm better,"
When his parents called and said they wanted to come up to visit, he said, "No, it's alright guys. I'm okay, I have Jungkook,"
He twisted in bed, laying on his side so he could stare at the picture he had on his nightstand. It was dark, so it was hard to see, but Taehyung had the picture memorized.
Him and Jimin.
His hair had been red at the time, Jimin's black. He had pointed out that they looked like Eric and Ariel from The Little Mermaid, and Jimin had laughed.
Jimin had then said that he had done that on purpose, but Taehyung didn't believe him.
Taehyung shouldn't have believed him.
Shouldn't have believed that Jimin would be okay.
His own coughs scared him, shaking him out of his thoughts.
Blindly, the young college drop out reached around for his phone, squinting his eyes at the bright light.
2:14 AM.
Not too bad, Taehyung thought. More sleep than usual. Maybe tonight, be would be able to go back to bed.
He almost laughed at his own stupidity. Going back to bed? Yeah right.
Ignoring the dozens of missed calls and text messages, he scrolled through his apps until he found his gallery.
The album he labeled '<3' stared in his face almost mockingly, and he hesitated before clicking it.
Looking at pictures of him and Jimin only brought sadness, longing, and pain. But it was worth it to see the smile Jimin had, even if it was merely a picture.
Jimin always loved smiling, he said he knew his was contagious, and he liked making other people smile.
He swiped through picture after picture, thousands of them, until he reached their very first picture.
Jimin had asked him out with bright red cheeks and a stutter so cute that Taehyung didn't have it in him to say no.
And then, at the end of their first date, Jimin's phone number securely in his phone, Taehyung had said that he needed a picture of the two of them to put as Jimin's contact picture.
And this was that picture.
Jimin's cheeks still slightly red, a shy smile on his face as he hesitantly threw his arm over Taehyung's shoulder as directed by said boy. Taehyung himself was smiling cheekily, unaware that their roles would quickly reverse and he would be the one constantly flustered the further Jimin came out of his shell.
Suddenly, a text from Jungkook dragged his eyes away from Jimin's eye crinkles and slightly scrunched nose.
Bunny looking bitch

how tf did u know i was awake shithead
i know my best friend. so you have 2 options
either put the phone down and go to bed,
or you could come open your door and we could cuddleTaehyung had been out of bed after reading '2 options'. It wasn't the first time Jungkook had showed up in the middle of the night to comfort him.
His eyes met Jungkook's teasing ones, and he sighed, "Hi Kookie."
"Hi Tae," Jungkook muttered, "So you gonna let me in or what?"
Taehyung managed a shaky smile, earning a bright smile from his best friend.
Jungkook's arms came around his waist and he relaxed slightly, letting the younger drag him back to his bedroom.
"You need to eat more," Jungkook whispered, once they had tucked themselves under the covers. They faced each other, Jungkook's arm loosely on his waist, playing with the plain black shirt.
"I eat just fine thank you," He defended, though the way his boney wrist was hidden behind his head all of a sudden told Jungkook that he was well aware.
"Jimin wou-"
Taehyung inhaled sharply, "Don't. Just....please don't. I know what he would have wanted Jungkook."
The younger sighed in defeat, before nodding and pulling Taehyung into his chest, "He loved you a lot Taehyung. More than you know."
His eyes grew teary quick.
"I'm not trying to bring up any memories, or make you cry, or try to get you to change," Jungkook muttered into his hair, "But he would've done anything for you. I just need you to know that."
Taehyung's sobs echoed in Jungkook's ears, and his heart clentched painful at hearing his best friend like that. But Taehyung hadn't cried, really cried, in a long time. Since Jimin's funeral actually.
"I'm right here Taehyung, right here," Jungkook kissed the top of his head, his own eyes stinging a bit.
Long after Taehyung had cried himself to sleep, Jungkook slipped out from under the covers and made his way to the kitchen, where he turned on the lights and dropped himself on a stool.
"I need your help," He whispered into the phone, after dialing a familiar number.
