A lot can happen in a month. New faces become ones you easily recognize, a new moon can come and go. A life can end, and a new one can begin. Those are just a few of the things that can take place in the time span of a month, and Esmeray was finding that out all too well.

"Hey babe whatcha doing?" Tobias asked, stopping beside Esmeray who was sitting cross-legged on the ground watching the young children play.

She smiled up at him and tucked her hair behind her ear. "Just relaxing for a bit before I go spend some time with Myra. She's gotten so big."

"I agree, she definitely has." He held out his hand and gently pulled her to her feet when she gripped his hand. He kissed her cheek with a smile. "I was wondering if you'd go patrol the borders with me? I know you haven't seen all of our territory."

"Oh my gosh can I!?" She asked excitedly, gripping his hand tightly as a bright smile split her full lips.

He chuckled and kissed her nose. "Of course, silly. That's why I asked."

"Then yes, yes I wanna go!" She answered excitedly before wrapping her arms around his neck and giving him a smacking kiss.

He squeezed her hand and they began their walk through the village and to the edge of it. They passed by many of their pack members and hugged a few kids along the way. In a matter of moments they stopped at the edge of the village.

"Ready?" Tobias asked while he let go of Esmeray's hand. His eyes glinted slightly and his canines peeked out of his smile.

Esmeray nodded, her own eyes glinting. She took a breathz feeling in sync with her mate as she willed her shift to happen. Nothing happened and she looked over to see Tobias as his huge black wolf. She tried again, succeeding only to partial shift but nothing more. She growled in annoyance and tried once more. When she remained her human form, she sighed and cursed under her breath.

"What's wrong?" Tobias asked after he shifted back to human. He raised his brow and looked at her concerned.

She snorted and crossed her arms. "I can't shift."

"What do you mean, you can't shift?" He questioned, alarm brightening his eyes. He gently gripped her shoulder and gave her a once-over. "You okay?"

"I mean I can't shift! And yes I'm fine," She answered with a tone of slight anger. She rubbed her face and groaned, muttering to herself.

Concern wrinkled his brow and his brows raised slightly. He tilted his head and took a breath. "It's the stone. I'm sure the stone has something to do with it."

She shook her head and frowned at him. "No, it ain't the stone. I could shift just a few days ago."

"Y'all okay?" Connor called on his way to check on some young warriors. He stopped in his tracks and waved at them.

Tobias jerked his chin and have him the come-here hand gesture. When Connor walked up, he grabbed his beta by the shoulder. "Connor, something is wrong with your sister."

"I'm just fine," Esmeray protested, giving them both a look as she crossed her arms.

Tobias ignored Esmeray's statement and turned to Connor. "She can't shift."

"Bet it's that damn stone," Connor stated, his attention now focusing on his sister. "It probably fucked up your wolf."

Esmeray growled, her eyes glinting while she flashed her fangs to prove a point. "It ain't the stone and my wolf works just fine, thank you very much."

"You're welcome, Mrs. Snarky," Connor said sarcastically. "When did you find this out?"

"Just now," Tobias answered, rubbing Esmeray's arm comfortingly even though she was fine for the most part. "We were going to check borders."

Connor nodded and titled his head back a little. "Ah, I see. Speaking of borders, there's been knew signs of Bloodborne within our territory."

Tobias leaned forward, a low growl rumbling from him. "Again?"

Esmeray sighed and crossed her arms, looking between her mate and her brother with an unreadable expression. "Apparently. They definitely have something planned."

"I can't agree more. It's obvious they're up to something," Connor agreed, his eyebrows raising slightly.

Tobias gently grabbed Esmeray's hand and took a step forward. "Forget the Bloodborne for a moment, Esmeray is going to see Lillian."

Connor nodded to both of them. "Alright. I got some things to go take care of but lemme know what the doc says."

Esmeray opened her mouth to protest but thought better of it. Instead she followed her mate so he wouldn't have to drag her along. She took a breath as they stepped into the doctor's cabin, a cabin that used to hold Nadia. A soft wave of nostalgia spread over her as the fair Lillian greeted them. This was one of the first places she'd been to on her arrival for Tobias's help all those weeks ago. A lot had happened since then.

"Is everything okay, alpha?" Lillian asked, her light violet eyes wide with concern. "Luna, are you alright?"

"Everything is okay, I think." Tobias nodded toward Esmeray and sighed. "The Luna. . .she just can't shift. She could a week or so ago but not now."

Lillian's brow furrowed for a moment and she tilted her head at Esmeray. She gently took Esmeray's hand and lead her over to a chair and gestured for the Luna to take a seat. She smiled at Tobias when he stepped up behind the chair Esmeray sat in and rested his hands on it. "Alpha, she is totally okay. Only one thing can cause this, and it's not anything bad. There's nothing to be afraid of."

"Then what is it?" Esmeray asked softly, her eyebrows lifting slightly as she stared into Lillian's kind face.

Lillian gently grasped both Tobias and Esmeray's hand in hers. The brightest smile the pair had ever seen tugged at her cheeks and a look of unsuppressed happiness flowed on her face. "Alpha, Luna. . . y'all are expecting."
