Orona discovered the glory that came from being labeled a war hero soon after arriving on Yavin IV. The entire base respected her, saluted her, and she felt a surge of power rise in her chest each time it happened.
Promotions were in the works for her and her companions. Iksene was offered the position of a frontline medic, and Jyn was unquestioningly adopted into the Rebellion's ranks. They were legends among rebels.
Orona wore her newly crowned position well. Her Lieutenant status was a figment of the past, and the Rank Insignia over her right chest now displayed three grid marks, signifying her rank of Major.
She stood by Cassian, now a Commander, and General Dodonna, who presented the plan of attack to the Rebel Fleet.
While Jyn only watched the meeting from the back of the room, Luke was now among the skilled pilots. Though Orona worried for the young man, she knew he would be guided by the Force.
When Gold Leader questioned the impact of X-wings up against the Death Star, Cassian stepped forward.
"The Death Star plans that Rogue One successfully extracted show a fatal flaw in the defense system." Cassian's proud look extended to Orona, whose determined features reflected her approval. "A flaw that Galen Erso put there. It won't be easy."
He pointed to the plans displayed on the projected hologram. "This trench here leads to a target area. It's a tight squeeze, and the target is only two meters wide. It's a thermal exhaust port, right below the main port. If you hit it, the blast should cause a chain reaction that'll blow the whole station. So whatever you do, don't miss." Cassian earned a few nervous laughs from the pilots, and he glanced back to Orona, who looked proud and offered a smile.
"Only a precise hit will set up that reaction. The shaft is ray-shielded, so you'll have to use proton torpedoes," said Dodonna.
Orona could feel the unease rolling off of the rebels in waves. Before Dodonna could send them to their fates, she stepped up.
"My father worked under the Empire till the day he died. They offered him greatness. They offered him prosperity. They offered him everything." Orona inhaled sharply, feeling the weight of the room on her shoulders. The rebels needed to be reminded of why they were here.
"And after everything he was rewarded with, Galen Erso knocked down the first domino of the Empire's chain. And we will not lose the momentum that he began. He knew the Imperials would stop at nothing to assume full control. He knew they would kill planets with his weapon, but he also knew that we would be the ones to stop it.
"I ask you now to fulfill my father's dream, Saw Gerrera's dream, my dream, and the dream of every damn species this galaxy knows. The Empire has only ever taken lives, and freedoms. They are cruel and unforgiving. They took Alderaan, Scarif, Jedha, and they will continue to take until we put an end to it."
