My alarm went off at 7 on Saturday morning. Rolling over to my nightstand I blindly felt around for my phone until I found it. Opening one eye I stopped the alarm and sank back into my pillow. For the past few weeks I have been getting up early to run. I don't mind the running, but getting up early when I don't have to hasn't been fun.
Slowly sitting up in bed I rubbed my eyes. After blinking a few times to help my eyes adjust, I picked up my phone. Opening up Instagram I looked to see if I had anything from Harper. She kind of shot me down last night and I was hoping she maybe sent me something later that I just missed. But there was nothing.
Tossing my phone to the foot of the bed, I threw the covers off of me and got up. Walking to my closet I put on a pair of sweatpants and a zip up hoodie.
Picking up my phone and wallet, I walked out the front door. Walking to the end of the street, I put in my ear buds and started a slow jog. I always felt better after my runs, and I could tell I was able to go further every time. Once I hit the entrance of the neighborhood, I started to run.
Being a Saturday morning, it was probably still quiet on the main streets. I made my way closer to town and decided to stop at a small coffee shop. It was a small family owned place that had some of the best food and coffee I have ever had.
The coffee shop was about two and half miles from the house. So it was a good halfway point. Taking out one of my earbuds, I opened the door and stepped inside. I wasn't really surprised that there was a line, along with a few people seated at the tables. Finally making it to the counter, I ordered a black coffee and thanked the woman behind the counter as she handed it to me.
Turning to walk back outside, I spotted a woman in a corner booth. Doing a double take, I realized it was Harper. She was wearing jeans with a black v-neck t-shirt and a black leather jacket, and I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face.
She had a tablet on the table along with a pad of paper next to it that she was writing on. It didn't seem like anyone was with her, so I slowly made my way over to her. The closer I got to her I realized she was listening to music.
Smiling to myself, I slowly sat down in the booth across from her. She looked startled for a moment as her eyes lifted to mine. I think it took her a minute to recognize me because she looked like she just got caught doing something wrong.
