As Friday afternoon came around, we were still just curled up on the couch. Everything about having her here just felt so natural. The end credits of the move we just watched were rolling as Harper was laying on my chest and I trailed my fingers up and down her back.
"Can you stay again tonight? Or do you have to go?" I asked her.
Lifting her head to look at me, she smiled. "I can stay, but I'll need to run home to get clothes."
I shrugged as I hooked my finger into the collar of my t-shirt she was still wearing, "You look really good in mine."
"It won't take me long." She said as she stood up and walked upstairs.
Putting her dress back on from last night, she quickly drove back to her house to pack a bag. I would have suggested it before she came last night, but I didn't want to assume anything. Just because she was coming for dinner didn't mean anything else had to happen.
While she was gone, I took off my sweat pants and put on jeans before tidying up the house. I wasn't ever a real neat freak, but I wanted to make sure everything stayed in place while Harper was here. It wasn't long before there was a knock on the door, and she was back. She changed into jeans and a crop top and had a small duffle bag over her shoulder.
"This feels weird." I said as I held the door open for her.
"What does?" She asked, looking concerned.
Taking her bag, I set it on the couch and pulled her into my chest. "It feels weird having you knock..." I said hesitating, "You don't have to if you aren't comfortable with it, but what if I just gave you a key?"
Her eyes went wide as she looked up at me, "Um, wow... I guess that's up to you. I of course wouldn't ever be here without you knowing."
"Let's put it this way," I said as I led her into the kitchen to the drawer with all the random stuff in it, "You are welcome here anytime. I don't need a heads up, and you don't need permission to be here. Come over whenever, and stay for as long as you want to." I said as I put a spare key into her hand.
Wrapping her arms around my neck, she pushed up on her tiptoes and kissed me. Running my hands down her sides to her thighs, I lifted her up and set her on the countertop. I softly kissed her as I felt her smile.
I felt my phone start to vibrate in my pocket, so I pulled it out to see Elijah's name. I looked at Harper, silently asking if it was ok to answer. She just nodded as she smiled.
"Hey man, what's up?" I answered.
"I have pizza and beer, am I coming over, or am I eating and drinking all of this myself?"
I looked at harper for a minute as I thought of what to do, "... Yeah, come over." I finally said.
Harper gave me a questioning look, but I just shot her a wink.
"On my way." He said just before hanging up.
Stepping back in between Harper's legs, I put my hands on her hips.
"Remember Elijah? You met him at the bar." I asked.
"Yeah." She said nodding.
"We have guys night every now and then when he brings pizza and beer over and we just play games and stuff all night..." I said hesitating.
"...and he's coming over now?" She asked.
I nodded, "He knows about us, and I um... I really want you two to get to know each other."
"Oh, ok. You didn't tell him I was here though."
I chuckled, "No, I didn't. I wanted to make sure he would come. I want to be with you alone, but he's my best friend, and I hope that by getting to know you, he might understand..."
